| This is a bit overdue. I have not been on this site for well over a year it seems. I figure I am about due to give a short memorial. I adopted Gabriel at the beginning of April 2013 from the Mighty Mutts org. He had problems with people getting close to his face and would become agitated. As a large, white husky he can be intimidating, but one common thing said is that he was a beautiful being. As long as others were informed and respected his space he was loving. I remember asking the members of this site for information about his behavior, but for some animals that grew up with original abusive owners this task is not easy and they never truly get over it. All you can do when adopting is to show them love which I did. When Gabe's foster dad warned about his condition I was a bit hesitant, but I felt a connection with him and pushed forward. The day he was dropped off, I was sitting on my back porch while he ran around when suddenly he jumped atop of the stoop and landed with his face directly to me when this picture was taken. This picture doesn't capture the affectionate kisses he gave, but it shows how he accepted me into his life. Sadly, that lasted only one year when in April 2014 I had to make the hardest decision in my life to give Gabriel a peaceful ending when he developed an aggressive form of liver cancer. This loss was extremely difficult for me. When you have a dog, any dog, you must accept things are outside of your control. I had Gabriel for a year ... a very short, amazing year. Gabriel loved spending time with me and neighborhood friends as well as our special trips to Long Island to visit my family and for long nature hikes. He loved how it felt pushing his face in shrubs and bushes. I do not want to rant too much, but I do want to say that I loved him very much and that I am extremely grateful to him. There are so many things I wish we could have done. This spot is called Riviera in a small town on LI. It was the spot Gabe and I would settle down for a bit during our hike. It is where is ashes have been spread. Apologies for not posting anything sooner. It hurt a lot to even come to this site and it still does knowing the reason why I joined was for him. I was not super involved with discussions, but when I asked for help this community was there. So thank you all very much.

| I'm sorry for your lost. he was a true gift, and was lucky to find a person that he felt he could trust and shard so much love in such a short time. i know that very important peace of you has gone with him, i felt that way as well when i lost my ferrets. and that your live seams empty with out them. but an even bigger peace still lives with you in your heart, memories, and in life you both shard together. his place can never be filled by anyone, but in time it will hurt a little less.
beautiful spot that you spread he ashes, he will be very happy there.
i hope in time that you'll open your heart once more to another fur baby that need your love and endless devotion.

| I am truly sorry for your loss. It sounds like Gabe had a rough start in life, but hopefully you realize that at the end, he loved you and knew you loved him...that should bring you some peace, because I'm sure it brought some peace to Gabe.
I love the spot you scattered Gabe's ashes. |

| Anthony, i remember you and Gabriel. I am so sorry he was taken from you so soon. I think i would be crushed, im glad you did come and let us know and he will forever have a place in your heart and on this forum. I hope one day when you are ready you will let another sib into your life, they are one of a kind and dig deep into our hearts.

| I can only imagine the pain. I am so attached to my Nikita it is going to be a very hard time when she leaves. I have not been on this site much either until my girl swallowed a needle last weekend and I needed some support after her surgery. I will be here much more often. Hang in there, husky's are special dogs and maybe you will find another pal someday. |
