| Hello all, I am a new husky owner, and would like to introduce myself and my puppy Gypsy- she is approximately 14 weeks old. I have three other dogs, and so far so good. The other three include two Pomeranians (on the larger side) and one Beagle. All males, and she is the first female (and likely only) in the pack. My one year old beagle and Gypsy have taken a strong liking to eachother, and play all day. I have a question for you guys... I adopted her from a very good local organization with the understanding that she is not 100% husky- they labeled her a husky shepherd. Of course, I think it is an amazing combination, but I am not sure if she is mixed with shepherd or maybe something else. Either way, she is awesome, and seems very smart. What do you guys think? I am inserting a picture below, and would like everyones input. She looks a lot like a husky but not full husky. |

| Hello y'all from the depths of southwest Texas (Big Bend country). You might have noticed that things get a little quiet around here on weekends - this weekend they've been somewhere beyond "a little quiet".
At her age and with those pictures (sorry) it's really hard to tell - so far she just looks like a dog ....her markings are unusual for a Husky, but I've seen odder; the bat wings (ears) are about normal for 'most any medium / big dog (and very common and funny on a Husky) Don't be surprised, btw, if those ears flop when she starts teething - there's some relationship there but I have no idea why.
Edited: Don't worry, we gotten used to pictures that are sideways and some even upside down. The best picture you could get us would be one of her standing up, where you take a picture -side on- from her level. But at her age, don't expect much input ... I don't think. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

She def is part husky- she plays like a husky, has one blue eye and one darkish eye. She does not have a husky tail. Of course whatever she is I am a happy owner, I just want to know for training purposes, etc. |

| By the way aljones, my last post shows how one ear was flopping literally after you wrote that. |

| Awwww, so adorable! Welcome to the forum! The ear flop and teething, if I remember correctly (cuz it happened to my Kohdi) has something to do with the jaw (maybe it's the gums) being so painful when teething is going on |

| My first Husky was a Husky/Shep mix in 1985 totally awesome mix and one of the best if not the best dogs I ever had in my life. Just remember that the poms and beagle will always be small and Gypsy will grow bigger and play rough to the point they'll end up avoiding her. |

| I second the Husky/Border Collie mix. Marking pattern and the black smudges in her white seem border collie-like. That can give her the flop in her ears as well. Her forehead seems a little high right now like perhaps one of the parents might have had something else in them but then she could grow out of it too. _________________ |

| I third the border collie parentage - though the Karelian Bear Dog has similar markings, they are very rare. Also - you said she was very smart. I understand border colliesare super smart. |

| Amy, I think you are spot on with this pup being a KBD. I will go so far as saying this pup is probably a pure KBD, pet quality pures will have the freckles and can have blue eyes. They have similar structure and personality to the husky, and can certainly be confused for such, since KBD's are so rare. Gypsygirl, I was wondering if you live or acquired Gypsy in the Northwest of the US? They are not so rare, and have been used a lot in Bear hunting and management in areas such as Washington and Idaho. Otherwise I would agree with the rest perhaps a border collie, or an Australian(Aussies can have blue eyes), I do not see shepherd at all, unless you are talking about the Australian Shepherd(Aussies) |
