| I know there was a similar thread, but didn't want to hijack the other person's thread. I'm going to be picking up an 8 week old puppy this weekend, and was wondering if there was anything else that I needed on my 2 hour trip to pick it up. I have a crate, blankets, collar/nametag/leash, bowls, food/treats, chewtoy. Also my first time picking up a puppy, anything I should know would be much appreciated I kind of feel like a first time parent. |

| Paper towels, towels, trash bags, and a good cleaner. Also a lot of puppies get car sick there first time in the car so it might come out both ends I would use old towels in the crate and not blankets. Or you could just use potty pads and throw them away if anything happens.
Also two hours is a little long you might want to bring a little water and a bowl.
We had to take a 11 hour car ride one way when bringing our pup home so it could be worse. |

| All of the above are good suggestions - and I particularly like patience. Some puppies will curl up and go to sleep - and that's a good sign, especially if you travel a lot. Some puppies will let you know they need "to go" but only if you're looking for signs - and that's also a really good sign. Some puppies will have "stuff" coming out of both ends by the time you hit the end of the drive way - as suggested, old towels or old blankets are definitely in order, just in case. Figure your two hour trip there will turn into at least three coming home, puppy potty stops are a necessity, especially if you want him (her / it?) to understand that messing in the car is really obnoxious.
Best of luck to you and pictures would be really neat!!! _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Hey! This is a very exciting time for you, ahh I remember when we went to go pick up our little Mylo... I thought a 40 minute was a long drive haha. We picked up Mylo at night (around 7pm) thankfully he curled up with my girlfriend and slept all the way home.
But anyway, like everyone above me has said..patience, towels, stop for potty action, and some more patience! Good luck and bring on the pics!

| The drives to pick up Kohdi and Mishka were 4-5 hours one way. With Kohdi, he was an angel, although I brought a crate, I had him in my lap on the way home (friend was driving) and he pretty much slept (as did I, haha) all the way home. I brought water with me, but gave him just enough to keep him quenched because driving thru cities like L.A, I knew it wouldnt be easy to just pull over if he had to go. We made a couple stops to let him out to pee AND because the way my friend drives, I was getting pretty car sick. So with Kohdi I brought with me a pee pad, towels, a crate, and a small chew toy. With Mishka, I brought the same, only she DID pee on me, LOL...to be fair, she did warn me (she started to get antsy, tried to climb up on the dashboard, etc...I just thought she was being a puppy) so even though it was me she peed on, the pee pad came in handy cuz I was able to slide it under me to keep it from soaking thru me and onto the seat. Only advice I can give is make some stops along the way. And...congratulations on your new puppy |
