| Hey! My name is Tiffany. My boyfriend and I adopted Triton in February from Bay Area Siberian Husky (BASH). When we adopted him, he was picked up by animal control and was put in a shelter. His past is a complete mystery! He was estimated to be about 1 years old and the only thing trained about him was that he is VERY house trained! Since the adoption, he has been such a joy to have! He's been responding quickly to training and we think we have the greatest dog in the world- obviously very biased! We feel that he's still underweight and skinny. Currently, he's 62 pounds, and 24 inches tall. We are feeding him EVO-Herring at the moment but he's not putting on weight. We are considering to switch to the Raw Diet! The only thing we seem to be battling with is that Triton truly hates being left alone at home. We have tried the crate- but something about it seems to make it worst. He doesn't mind sleeping in it though. We have tried rescue remedy, which hasn't worked. Our next try will be DAP, and letting him roam a certain area of the house (his reaction to cry when left in the house vs the crate is way longer). We look forward to learning more about other huskies and information on raising a husky. By the way, I complete newbie when it comes to forums- so please bear with me!! Here's a few photos of Triton! You can click on his link to his tumblr to see more of him! He LOVES sunbathing! He likes to sleep on chairs, sofas and must always rest his head on the armrest or pillow! This is at my boyfriend's mom's yard. This is around the first month we got him, since then he grew a little more! |

| Welcome, Tiffany! Triton is totally handsome! I would say at 24" and 62 lbs, he's right where he should be. None of the pictures make him look too skinny (even his first month picture). Huskies are a lean breed and shouldn't have any fat on them Standard height and weight for a male is 24" and a max weight of 60lbs Browse the forum threads on separation anxiety for some ideas, but it sounds like you're doing some good things. Patience and time.... these are the keys to finding out what works with your husky when being left home alone. _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| Welcome Tiffany! What a cute boy you have! I agree with Tori, he does not look skinny. Your dog looks very similar to my first husky when we got him at 6 months. He was all legs! He bulked up a few years later but stayed at around 60-65 lbs. |

| Welcome!!! Triton looks so happy in all his pictures! with everyone else his weight is fine and if he is still a year old he has another year of "filling" out and not looking so skinny but staying the same weight, that happened with our boy. have fun looking around and starting a thread on any questions you might have, and welcome to the wonderful world of a husky forum, we will be kind to you _________________ |

| Thanks everyone! I realized that I posted photos of him that are slightly outdated. We started to realize his thinner figure after he shed A TON, and after I bought the furminator. But we'll see, maybe he is just a leaner boy! We will be starting him on the raw diet soon, at around 3%, so maybe it'll help a little! I found a more recent "full body" photo Triton, that happened to one of my favorite "LOL" photo! I can't believe I forgot to add it to the comedic thread! We call this photo: "Seductive Husky" |

| He still just looks lean and normal to me He's so handsome though!! How old is he again? And an easy way to tell whether he is too thin or not is to look at his rib cage. Can you see his ribs? You should be able to feel them easily, but not see them. Also his hip bones. You should be able to see the point of his hips, but he should not look bony. Triton definitely looks LEAN, but he doesn't look too thin to me Raw is a great diet. Just make sure you have ready up on it a ton to be sure that you're feeding the proper portions. Are you doing Prey-Model Raw or a BARF diet? _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| HI there....welcome! What a handsome handsome boy! I love the seductive husky pic! They do have this charm . Love the bent paw! I think he looks fine also. My boy is almost 9 months and weighs probably about 45lbs now. He too is all legs! My female gained a lot of weight after she got spayed and trust me you want him to stay like that. She looked so fat =( She's lost of the weight now. Down to 62lbs, but still has a few more to shed! |

| He's about 15months now. And, I just checked his body! Can't see his ribcage or hip bones but can just feel them! Must be a lean boy then! We are thinking about the prey-model raw diet. Although, we haven't started just yet because I want to read more and watch the prices around the surrounding supermarkets. The only thing that's concerning me right now is the cost. People say it's cheaper, but cheaper to someone is different from another. We are trying to budget at $50/month for his food, if I start him at 3%, he'll be needing about 56 lbs. of raw meat per month! Meaning I have to find meat that is $1/lb. or less to stay on budget! Is it possible? Or should I re-budget because $50/month is unreasonable for a raw diet? And, like others I was reading about.. I worry about freezer space too!! Btw, I'm really enjoying everyone's photos of their dogs and just reading up on the different topics! I've been bothering my boyfriend all day showing him photos of other huskies! |

| Aww, well thanks and welcome! I'm glad you're enjoying it. At 15 months old, he is PERFECTLY normal sized. He's going to go through another growth spurt soon, so I wouldn't worry about him putting pounds on. Huskies will continue GROWING (in height as well as width) until they are about 15-18 months. Then they will fill out until they are 2, even 3 years old. So whereas he looks lanky now, he'll almost definitely fill out soon. Based on your description of how he feels and looks, he's PERFECT, so don't change a thing! I won't be the best person to answer this as I'm only starting to feed partial raw soon. I know that most people don't get their best prices at supermarkets though. If you really want to make raw feeding cheaper, you need a chest freezer to be able to buy in bulk and it's usually best to find a local butcher or meat store that you can buy from instead of the supermarket. I think with just buying from the supermarket, $1/lb is going to be very very hard to find and you might want to think about rebudgeting. Prey model raw is definitely good, but read up on it like you said. You might want to look into transitioning through some dehydrated raw first. It might be a little more expensive, but I am finding that it's going to help me ease into raw feeding a lot easier. We're going to start feeding The Honest Kitchen's Keen (Turkey/oat formula) as it's a complete diet. Then start supplementing it raw meats once we get a chest freezer. There are some very knowledgeable ladies on here about raw who could answer your questions better though _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| 3% is what you would feed a dog who needs to gain weight. By the looks of the pictures, he doesn't need to gain. They are supposed to be a lean breed. My big boy Odin only weighs 55lbs. As long as you can't easily feel his ribs (by just normal petting) I wouldn't be too concerned. Generally I start out with 2.5% and work from there.
I can feed 4 dogs a week (prey model raw) at about $35-40. Granted, i'm in Florida and ethnic markets are pretty much everywhere you look. We get bone-in meats at about $.49- $.69 a lb and meat around $1.25 or so.

| Ah, silly boyfriend! He's the one that said 3%, he's also the man who thinks his tough husky should be bigger! I'll recalculate with 2.5% and start looking into the oriental markets around here! I live in San Jose, and I'm Vietnamese and I shop at oriental markets for veggies all the time!! I have no idea why I didn't think to look into the meat...? My mother would be so disappointed in me right now! Thanks for the great advice so far! This is why I haven't fully started him on the raw diet yet! I'm feeling better that he's just lean, and not underweight and that at 2.5%, it'll be less to feed Triton! Btw, Kristina, your dogs look familiar! Are you on siberian husky tumblrs?? I swear I seen them somewhere! And since you said you're from Florida, must be somewhere on the web! |

| I didn't think to look around at those markets until I was getting the mail and I actually stopped to look at one of the billions of fliers we get from those places. I was in shock at the prices!
I have accounts on pretty much every Husky forum but that's about it. The only other place I plaster with my dogs mugs is on Flickr. I tried to get into tumblr, but I didn't really get the concept! lol _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! It's a common misconception that huskies should be bigger. At his current weight and age, your boy is actually going to be well above standard weight for a husky! _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| I'm also from the Bay Area! He looks great! 62 lbs and only a year old! WOW! My Skyla is 1-1/2 years old and and she only weights 49 lbs and shes gained one pound in the last five weeks that I've had her, people tell me she looks to skinny but in fact she is very lean and runs scary fast, the Vet and trainer have told me she is in great shape. So FYI I wouldn't go to crazy on getting his weight up to fast as he will fill in as he gets older just like in the previous comments. - tritonsmom wrote:
