| I am in the process of becoming a foster through a Husky Rescue.
What are some things I should know from all of you that have fostered before? I am pretty excited. I finally get to find out how Okami does with another dog in the house.

| Expect them to stay longer than you think they will. And be stricter on them then you would on your own dog. Just because you don't mind dogs getting on furniture or barking playfully you are trying to help them find a home so they need to be the best behaved dog so they have the best chance. Expose them to as much as possible so you know what there limits are. And be honest with potential adopters you don't want them to take the dog only to learn something you glossed over is a deal breaker and they give the dog back.
Also forget the dog is a rescue people give dogs to much slack because they feel sorry for it because of the dogs past. Don't.
Good luck it's really hard. |

| Socialization is often greatly needed to help them find a home. Have resources for seeing strange people and dogs regularly. Huskies are one of those breeds that may take a lot of work to have them around cats. If you can get them used to smaller animals you open up a few more homes than listing it as a deal breaker. |

| Thanks for the advice Elise. I have just been grueling over it in my head... I am just more excited about the situation than I am thinking of the difficulty though. Pretty sure it is going to be hard. Also, I am hoping that Okami doesn't end up pair bonding. That is what I fear the most out of everything. I can handle most anything else that I can think of.
Just wondering if people would tell me their foster stories. Did you end up adopting instead? What were some of the changes you might have seen in your dog around the foster? Is it easier to have more than one in the long run? how much of a difference in finances is it to have 2? How much quicker is the food gone? Stuff like that. |

| Absolutely feed separately, feeding times with strange dogs in the house can lead to fights. Introduce Okami and the foster on neutral ground, don't just toss them in he backyard together as soon as the foster gets there. Meet in a nearby park or something and walk them together for a while so they get to know one another, but be prepared for fights. I got bit by my last foster pretty badly while I was breaking up a fight between he and Denali, so be careful with that. Also, don't give up quickly, I've seen a few fosters throw in the towel after a day or two because the dogs weren't immediately BFF's. Even if things get off to a rocky start, fostering is awesome and you're doing a wonderful thing _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | Lucy, my dogs aren't fosters, although I would have loved to foster...but I'm the type of person that wouldn't be able to let them go and pretty soon I'd have like 10 huskies living here. Anyways, the finances of having two isn't that bad as compared to one unless the foster has some health issues. Things like food...well, for every cup you give Okami, the other dog is getting a cup, so food does go twice as fast but I figure my dogs food is always "fresher" too cuz it's newer. Vet bills, unless one dog has health problems, aren't that bad either...just the routine exams, vaccinations, that sort of thing. |

| So, instead of fostering, I am actually going to be helping out a fellow member here, by adopting her husky. I will be adopting Gaia, from Christina G. in June!!!!! I am overjoyed to have a new addition to our family, also that I can help out a friend who really needed someone to do this for her. I am not going to go into anymore details for Christina's privacy. Just know that this was the best scenario that could have happened, and we are all around pleased with the result. All though Christina is letting Gaia come to the north with a heavy heart, Gaia will be missed. So she wants me to plaster as many photos of her everywhere (haha I think I can do that.) |

| Have the dogs met before? What do you think Okami will think of his new sister? |

| Okami is a pretty chill dog. Very social and happy go lucky. I think she'd be very happy to have a new sister. No the dogs haven't met before, but from what Christina has told me, Gaia and Okami have similar personalities. |
