| So I was just thinking about the several reasons I wanted a husky and thought it would be nice to hear about how you all made your decision. I was 9 and home alone one fall day, and there was a husky running around in my yard. My parents had always had doberman pinschers and our current one, Rook, discovered her outside and they began playing. I was fascinated by her! She was sooo beautiful and Rook loved her. So no one was home and I invited her inside and gave her some food and water. Rook, Perdy (that was what I was calling her) and I sat on the couch while I called all the local shelters and anyone whose number I knew (lol) to see if they had heard of anyone missing a dog. I had no luck and I knew my parents would be home soon and would be VERY upset that I let a strange dog into the house, so I let Perdy back outside with a big bowl of food and water hoping that would keep her around long enough so I could talk some sense into my parents and keep her until atleast I found her home. Well, when they got home they were, as expected, VERY PISSED, because I am a bad liar and told them all about my experience that day. They told me absolutely no way was I going to let that dog in my house again. So I went outside and played with her until I had to go to bed. I prayed that she would stick around til morning. When I woke up right after my parents left for work that day she was nowhere to be found. I was very sad. My mom called me and told me that I could let her in until I found her owner, and I cried and cried and told her it was all her fault. Little did I know it wasn't my mom's fault that Perdy wanted to wander. After that I did a ton of research on siberian huskies and wrote my next three reports at school about them:) After I graduated highschool my husband (boyfriend at the time) Steven and I moved into an apartment in the town where we now live and I started working at the local vet clinic. All of the huskies that came in were aggressive and everyone in the clinic hated huskies. I never lost my faith and as soon as Steven and I moved into a home for rent we decided that we were going to get a puppy for our wedding present:) It took us only a day to find the breeder we wanted him from and another agonizing 6 months for him to come along:) And then there was Icon;) the doggy love of my life! |

| As a child I always admired Huskies, how graceful they were, the intensity of their eyes and just their personality! I used to watch Balto every night as a child and hoping one day I'd have my own Balto. My parents never allowed to ever own a pet, and I never got the chance to meet a Siberian Husky in person. When I graduated High School, my boyfriend and I moved in together. Months went by of me begging for a dog, he said with time. In December '09 my boyfriend asked me what I wanted for Christmas, and obviously, I wanted a puppy. He asked me what breed, and quickly responded with Siberian Husky. I quickly started looking for a breeder, and stumbled upon one 15 minutes away! She had one litter with three little boys left, all litter mates and 9.5 weeks old! And I automatically fell in love with boy number 2, Embry. We asked her to hold him for us, and the following weekend we went and picked him up It was love at first sight, He's my best friend. |

| I rescued my first husky in 2004 and I was hooked with their affection, personality and playfulness. I rescue another that was due to be put down because he was heartworm positive, he also had whipworms, total owner neglect. I could not let this beautiful animal die in a shelter. Now, I have rescued and placed several huskies in loving forever homes and I try to educate perspective husky owners about the breed and to the fact they can be found in local kill shelters because people surrender them, not knowing the breed and their maintenance requirements or they are there because they are excellent escape artists. I love my boys and I love fostering and saving lives of their distant relatives. |

| I always loved huskies when I was a little girl. Then one day, a girl I knew got a 6 week old Siberian Husky. She kept him in her apartment for two weeks, before she decided that she just did not have the time for him. She then took him to her mother, who, after a week, said they dog could not stay there any longer. So on her way to the pound with this puppy, she happened to stop by my house. I was 16 at the time. I showed him to my mom, and said "look mom, I got a new puppy". My mom, who raises German Shepherds and thought we had plenty enough dogs, said back to me "Oh no. That dog can not stay here". I then reminded her that she had also always wanted a husky....and I told her that if we didn't take him then he was going to the pound. She agreed that we couldn't let such a sweet baby go to the pound, so she let me keep him. And that was my first husky, Blitzen. I now have two huskies. I started dating my boyfriend , and he fell in LOVE with Blitzen, deciding he wanted a dog just like mine. When we moved in together, we decided Blitzen needed a companion. We now have Zoey. Me, Blitzen, and baby Zoey |

| I never had any pets growing up. I had severe asthma when I started kindergarden, and as I got older, it turned into allergies - so I was always allergic to animal fur. So the thought of a dog never entered my mind until I got married 2 1/2 years ago... JD, my husband, had an Akita when he was growing up, and in college, had roommates with Huskies, Timberwolves and Akitas. So he always considered himself 'part owner' of these dogs. About 6 months after we got married, he proclaims to everyone, 'I'm getting a dog when I finish my Master's degree!' Of course, I say no because I'm allergic. Six months after that, he tells everyone, 'I'm getting a dog after I finish school even if I have to sleep outside with the dog!' 6 months after that, he finishes school, and all the while he's in school, I'm thinking about it, and learned that people with allergies often find themselves not being allergic to Huskies because of something on their coat repels dirt and water which is why Huskies don't have to 'dog ordor' that most dogs have....I say to myself, 'Hmmm...' A couple of months after JD graduates from school, I ask, 'What kind of dog would you want to get and would you be willing to rescue a dog instead buying one?' He replies, 'I'd look at rescues to see if they had any decent adoptable dogs, but I'd want either an Akita or a Husky.' I thought, 'Yes! Both breeds are beautiful, intelligent and loyal, and made for snow!' We ended up at the Akita rescue in Colorado and met a couple of Akitas and my allergies went off!! The person at the rescue then said we have a really cute Akita-Husky mix if you'd like to meet him. 'Yes!, that might work!' We met Toby and not only did my allergies go off, but I also broke out in hives on my hands and arms that got in contact with Toby. JD then said, 'OK, let's go visit the Husky rescue.' I wasn't very hopeful but when we got there, I sat in a small room, Husky hair everywhere, ceiling fan blowing and there was 1 small window. I thought for sure I'm doomed. 2 hours later, after meeting 3 dogs, one thinking he was a lap dog and sat in my lap for 15 minutes, JD turns to me and asks, 'Anything?' No sneezing, no itchy or watery eyes, and no hives! ...almost 4 months with Ginger and still no allergic reaction whatsoever... And that's how I/we ended up with a Husky! _________________ |

| It was my boyfriend who wanted a husky. He always thought they were beautiful and it was the only breed he wanted. If you would have asked me what kind of dog I wanted, I would have never said husky. Not cause I didn't like them, but the thought just never occured to me. My mom does dog rescue, so I've grown up with a ton of different dog breeds but never a husky. Actually I didn't want a dog after living with so many for so long! But now I love Siku and am happy we got her. |

| I've grown up with dogs my entire life, but never a husky. When I moved in with my boyfriend 4 years ago (now husband)I wanted a dog right away since I had always had one while living at home. He said he'd always wanted a husky and it being his first dog ever he made it clear that it was the only breed that he wanted. I had no objections since they're so beautiful! That's how we ended up with Mya and now I'm totally in love with the breed!!!!!!!!! They're awesome! |

| I was in Mars Hill Maine, which is fifteen hours nw of Winchester Conn, my aunt had asked me to feed her Husky black lab mix, I walked through the snow to the dog house, I did not see her at first, at a glance all I saw was two eyes and a nose looking at me from under a foot of snow, this is the husky/lab mix, I got my first husky mix Buddy from, and stayed with me for fifteen years, a beautiful state,a beautiful husky mix |

| for me it started when i moved to the neighborhood my parents still live in. i was about 10 at the time..the neighbors up the street had a BEAUTIFUL red and white husky that i just fell in love with. i never got to meet it in person but i'd always see them walking it and admired it. that also spawned my desire to own a red husky (one day ) i vowed that when i was able to live on my own (my dad HATES dog hair so a husky would have been a no go for him) i'd get a husky. I did tons of research so that i'd know exactly what i was getting. Well I found Nikki for rehome on craigslist for a mere $60 adoption fee (and a 10hour roundtrip to get her). Man was it the BEST choice i've ever made. I have fallen so in love with this breed I couldn't see myself owning anything else (except possibly a malamute). Honestly I know Nikki is not the best representation of the breed personality-wise because I read all these stories on here and say "wow am I glad that doesn't happen to me" haha. She's still, of course, untrustworthy off-leash and highly prey driven. To anyone looking to share their home with this wonderful breed you definitely need to research and know what you're getting into. Hate to see so many rehomed |

| I always had this thing with wolves since I was really little. I loved them, well it was more admired. I was in awe over these animals. When I was growing up it was German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois ect. ect. (pretty much the polar opposite of Huskies lol) And then I met a girl in my neighborhood who had a Husky. He was handsome and so regal but he was "mean" and they always had him kenneled up. It was sad.
When my exboyfriend and I began dating I wanted a dog. I bed and pleaded for a dog. Finally, a year and a half later, we're walking through the pound (looking for a GSD actually) and my eyes fell on Mickey. He was so skinny and gross sitting in the back of his kennel run. He came up to the fence and put his head down so I could rub his neck. And that was it, I didn't even want to look at the other dogs there.
When we first brought him home he was an amazing dog. Great off the leash, great on the leash, totally quiet a dream dog. About a month later he was cured of all his internal parasites and such and became the true Husky he is. Bolted out the door every 5 seconds, scaling the gates whenever he wanted, dragging the garbage from one end of the house to the next... I don't know, maybe it was a sickness, but I was HOOKED. Now, i've got 3 more. _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! Join our facebook meetup group! |

| I have always wanted a Doberman and was looking at breeders for a puppy. Then a year ago my daughter's fiancee gave me an 8 week old Husky puppy named Braiden. He was a red and cream blue eyed boy and I fell in love with the breed. I enjoyed him so much that I got him a playmate last month...8 week old brown-eyed wolf gray Skyla.....I now have a blue-eyed boy and brown-eyed girl, just like the song says. I am now "hooked on Huskies" and can't imagine a better breed. They are so intelligent and keep me on my toes for sure. I retired two years ago and spend my days playing with the doggies......It's a great life!!!! |

| When I was in my teens, I saw my first pair of Huskies at the covered bridge festival in Indiana. They were so calm and quiet in the midst of chaos. I couldn't take my eyes off of them. Since that day I researched them and bidded my time for when I owned my own place. Took me about 10 years... |

| I grew up reading Jack London. I was always your typical wolf lover: lots of posters, calendars, blankets, and a wolf adoptee through one of those dollar-a-month programs (or something like that - it was a gift from my parents one year). At some point, huskies went hand in hand with the wolf: hardy, beautiful, rare - traits that I believed, as a child, epitomized the Siberian husky.
I was finally able to convince my parents to let me have a little husky girl when I was in middle school and I haven't looked back. |

| My dad used to train show huskies for a kennel in high school, so he's always loved the breed. My parents had Ivan when I was a baby - there are a few pictures of him looking over me, but I don't remember him. :-( When I was in middle school, an Alaskan Husky/German Shepard mix wandered into my uncle's yard to play with his Shepard mix and wouldn't leave - after a month or so of trying in vain to find his family, my uncle gave him to me. Sam was my heart dog - I don't have many memories from that time in my life that don't involve him. After Sam died, we rescued a 6 month old German Shepard girl from a guy who was a case-a-day drunk who would either abuse or neglect her (tied up to a pole outside his trailer). Sienna turned out to be a fantastic dog. Meanwhile, my Dad had moved to Denver and befriended a nice lady at a dog show who happened to also run a rescue. They exchanged info so "down the road" my Dad could talk about maybe getting another husky. Three days later, he got a call there was a husky abandoned by a college kid at a boarding kennel, wouldn't ya like to meet him...? My dad jumped at the opportunity and adopted Rimsky that day. Then, as fate would have it, about 8 years later, another husky was abandoned by my aunt's tenant, so he took Cheyenne in.
I've always had a soft spot in my heart for huskies, so when I met my boyfriend who turned out to become my hubby, it was just a known fact that when I had a yard, I was getting a husky. Period. Well, this past fall we moved from my little condo into a proper house, with a yard, so I got my husky!! Nikolai is all I had hoped for and more. I'm continuing to lobby for another, since huskies are like Pringles - you can't just have ONE. ;-) Huzzby doesn't see it that way, so we're waiting... for now. |

I've never thought of them like Pringles! LOL! But I NEVER thought I'd ever want another one...and here I am - submitted an adoption to rescue another husky from the same place we got Ginger from... _________________ |
