| Subject: False Pregnancy? Thu Apr 09, 2015 3:05 pm | |
| Hello everyone,
Our husky Lana has been acting a little strange and aggressive with our other dogs. My wife and I think it may be a "false pregnancy" because she is acting just like one of our other dogs who just had puppies. Those behaviors include being overly aggressive when other dogs that go near her crate whether she is in it or not, and has attacked one of the other dogs which is very unlike her. The dog she attacked she is her "best friend" and they spend all their time together. She is spending most of her time in the crate on her own and is trying to clear everything out except a blanket. She is even lactating a little. I would say she is being super cuddly but that is how she always is.
Some bonus info: Lana is not spayed She is up to date on shots etc She eats taste of the wild food with our other dogs She is our only husky She is about 2.5 years old
Does this sound like a false pregnancy to you guys or something more serious? Have any of you dealt with something similar? What did you do to help everything blow over and how long did it last?
Thank you for your input! |

| Haha, I so understand false pregnancies. My girl is a little over two and had a bad spay(too young, and only 1 ovary dropped and removed, vet said second one may/may not drop, and well I guess it did). Since Miya was spayed she will go into heat like clock work every 6 months. Her last one in December went into false pregnancy. IT WAS THE PITS!! Luckily we do not have other dogs at the moment, so the aggression aspect I can not help you with, but she was more in love with her husky boyfriend that lives next to us, than normal. She also started to not eat, and she picked one particular toy that she would carry around and cry with it in her mouth. She also rearranged her bed constantly. So yes it does sound like that is possible that she is having a false pregnancy, although I will ask, since she is not spayed are you sure she is not really pregnant? |

Good question. There is no one around at the moment to get her pregnant, so unless a stray managed to hop our fence and back out, or she was the Virgin Mary of dogs I'm pretty sure . |

| I wish you luck. From what I read and what I did, do not let her have the opportunity to nest, if she is bringing in toys, leave them in a spot where she can't place in her nest. It took about 6 weeks for her to get over it. By me not allowing her to bring in her toys from outside, it made the pregnancy lessen and stop quicker. The max time would be 65 days, since that's approximately how long dogs are pregnant. Now I may seem to sound mean, but it may be a good time to think of spaying her, since she shows aggression to your other dogs. Since she did this once she may do it every time she goes into heat. From what I also read, spay her after she is completely back to normal. If spayed while she displays pregnancy, may promote false pregnancies after spaying. |

Not mean at all. It's something we are planning on doing. I appreciate the tips, thank you! |
