| Subject: Is my Husky small for his size? Mon Mar 09, 2015 10:45 am | |
| My Husky Aery's is 7 months old there and abouts....I'd never given his size a second thought as it seemed quite regular to me. However today on my way to college I seen a man walking a red Male husky. I asked the man the dogs age expecting him to be at least a couple months older than Aerys if not more. The man said to my surprise that he is only 7 months old.... So I guess my question is...can there be such a big difference in size in two dogs the same age? Would feeding and exercise be the main factors in his extra size or just genetics? Is it possible that this dog just entered puberty before Aery's who has yet to(vet said he was slow in this regard) ?
Any and all answer will be appreciated |

| oh gosh yeah Nala is so small she is only maybe 35 lbs and shes short
we had a meet with a husky group yesterday and they are all different shapes and sizes from tall to short to skinny to fluffy as long as your vet says he is a healthy size and weight he's alright.
i was the same way with nala when we first had her because everyone still thinks shes a puppy and shes only 3. when i tell people they are shell shocked really because people think huskies they think huge. but really they are all different sizes! |

| Huskies are actually a lot smaller than most people expect them to be, but they do come in many sizes. The breed standard they are relatively small though. |

| How much does your pup weigh? If I remember correctly, Diz was somewhere in the neighborhood of 35-40 lbs at 7 months. He's 2 now, and is around 53-55, and is a good weight, maybe slightly chunky, but his coat is so dense, it's hard to tell in winter. If you're curious, there is a long, long thread where people note their dogs weights and there are a lot of puppies on there, so you can see how they grew. https://www.itsahuskything.com/t999-weigh-in?highlight=weighA sort of general prediction is to double their weight at 4 months, so if you look at what Diz weighed at 4 months, 26 lbs, the prediction would have said 52 lbs, which is pretty accurate for him. They do all grow at different rates, and it is almost entirely determined by genetics. If you look at his parents (if you were able to see them), that will give you the best guess. The akc standard (which defines what a 'husky' or any breed is), says that the acceptable weight range for male huskies is 45-60 lbs, and females, 35-50. |

| My males are both rescues and both beyond breed standard in height and weight. I think there are just a number of oversized huskies too which confuses things. |

| There are probably more "improperly" bred Huskies out there than there are "properly" bred Huskies. People constantly think Link is tiny and that he can not be a full Husky because they think they are huge dogs. He is well below the limits of standard for a full grown male. |

| Gabby is "small". Right at or just below the limits of breed standards. About 20 inches tall and about 35 lbs |
