| Subject: Spinach Greens=Sickness? Sat Feb 21, 2015 3:02 pm | |
| My 6-year old female Sibe has always enjoyed the ingredients of salad (lettuce, cucumbers, cheese, etc.). Last night she was begging for some as I ate my salad so I gave her 3 pieces of baby spinach without anything on it. About 3 hours later she began panting and begging to go out. After a couple of trips outside the vomited twice and then slept all night. This morning she is pretty much exhausted, although she did eat of good breakfast of her normal dog food.
Is it possible that the spinach made her sick? As far as I know this is the first time she has had spinach. Just surprised at the outcome.
Advice please!!! |

| It is very possible, yes. No way to be sure though. |

| A quick Google shows that not only should spinach not be a problem it should be good for them. In fact, nothing that you mentioned (cucumbers, lettuce, spinach and cheese) should have caused a reaction - they're all beneficial and definitely not toxic. But that three hour window is about the right time for it to have been breaking down in her digestive tract ....
That does beg the question - you say that it was plain spinach, while I can't picture a little dressing being a problem, most will contain onions / garlic (possibly other seasonings) to which she might react. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Okay, Jeff, I sat on this overnight. Anything can have bacteria but in this case, if there were some bacteria which caused Juno to get sick (from three leaves) I would have expected the humans to be ill as well. Mike / Cindy did either of you have an upset tummy as well??

| Neither of us got sick. Juno is doing much better today. A little lethargic, but the sparkle is back in her eyes. I just have a hard time believing spinach leaves did that, but that is what she spewed back up. |
