| Others will have to chime in, because I am of no authority on Malamutes, but he looks like a husky/mal. His snout looks wider than most huskies, even my girl is questionable full husky, and her snout is not as wide as Thor's. I have to say though, Thor is a very handsome dog, his red is so deep and dark, I have to say he is stunning.
If you don't mind me asking how tall, how much does he weigh and his age may help in determining if he may be a mix. Mals tend to be quite larger than huskies. The last and next to last pic, his muzzle and snout just doesn't look like all husky......
ETA: His eye color is not typical husky, I do believe red Mals have a more green tint to their eyes. |

| Thank you! H: 25 inches W: 86 lbs He was born October 13, 2013 so he's over a year old now.
My other dog is 75% husky and they look very different so I've always wondered about Thor. Thor's a lot more muscular and much bigger than Loki. I'll have to wait until I get bloodwork done to know for sure. |

| If you google Malamutes, then Husky, you can see and read the differences, Mals are almost double the weight of standard Huskies, they will be a couple inches taller. To be honest, I have a difficult time viewing pics individually and being able to determine a husky from a mal. If side by side I can tell the difference. Do you have a pic of the 2 together, and do you have a pic showing Thor standing to view his tail? Mals tails are quite different too. They will be bigger boned(huskies have a more delicate looking frame and face), a stockier look although slightly taller. I hope that helps, and hope that someone else can throw their opinion in.....

| Ideal size: Males - 25 inches tall at the shoulder and 85 pounds - Malamutes
Males 21 - 23½ inches (53 - 60 cm) Weight: Males 45 - 60 pounds (20 - 27 kg) - Huskies
Here are breed standards for you to compare |

| They are great looking guys!! His tail curl in last pic was what I was looking for, I'm saying either Husky/Malamute or all Malamute. again, hoping someone with more experience with Mals will jump on....I love the contrast of Loki and Thor, enjoy your guys and enjoy the forum. |

| I don't really see the Malamute. In some pics I can see what Renee is saying but if Thor has Malamute, I'd say it was a very small amount. The tail is too tight, and not "plume" like, but that could be cus he's got a Huskies short coat, legs seem to long and thin as well. He's kinda heavy for a Husky though, and more a Malamute weight, Theres one pic where I see Pitbull? Rottweiler ?(I get the 2 confused)in the eyes (pic2) like, take away the ears and the muzzle and just look at the eye shape, set, and color. Anyways, I suck at dog breeds but I do know a lot about Huskies and Malamutes, I dont see Malamute but I do see Husky, LOL
Great looking dogs!!!

| Lol, Thanks for chiming in Jimmy, I know you have way more expertise in Mals than myself, I can see Rottie, it is definitely his muzzle that's different. Thanks for pointing out his legs, yes I see the difference with Mal legs vs husky legs.
Andy, my apologizes for semi hijacking your thread, I find the mixes very intriguing, and a learning experience. Quite often I can spot the second breed, but in your case, I really see a second breed in his face only, and his size, otherwise, like Jimmy yup husky. hmmmm, hoping others can spot the difference for you. |

| I've always thought that he had a pitbull quality about him. It's been a mystery since I got him, but hope to be able to get some ancestry results soon. They're my first huskies, so I am in no way an expert in typical physical characteristics and traits. |

| Andy, one last question(I'm in love with his face, sorry for asking so many questions, etc., ) since you know his date of birth, did you see his mom and dad? Or have pics of them? That may also help you to figure out......I grew up with a husky/gsd, and fell in love with the husky aspect(though I love gsd's too), they are demanding, stubborn, but they also make you laugh and get outside and exert yourself. I fell in love with their uniquity, for all any of us know(unless a true expert on breeds chimes in) he's all husky. Your Loki, is equally unique, I love the spots on his head.... Great avatar too. Now you need to do a scrapbook on them!!! |

| I know my dog Loki has filled out a good amount between one and almost two. I would think you may have something more muscular in the mix like a mal, rottie, lab, akita, etc. I'm not so great at guessing breeds for dogs though. If he is 86lbs at one, I would think the size will go up some in the next year. Beautiful dogs. |

| I am no expert...but maybe some Akita? Shape of his face and the muscularity of the body.
His face has the same lines as my son's husky mix - we don't know the mix, likely mostly husky with maybe some lab or, from the way he plays and "takes down" Ami, some pitbull or other terrier. |

| My guess would be a smidge of akita. He has a very sharp brow line more like an akita and the akita could also explain his closer fur and the curl of his tail. He is a pretty big boy though so in reality it could be a mix of multiple things. One parents could have been mal/akita and the other full husky. DNA that turns up something would be really interesting. _________________ |
