My pup will be 11 weeks Friday. We have been working on house traingin since day 1 and are getting very good! She sleeps almost all night most nights in her crate with a bed without getting up to go pee. But it is a different story during the day. I leave for work at 7, return home at 11:30-12, and then home again at 4:30. I only put a couple chew toys in the crate without a bed. Most times she will pee in the crate crate between trips home. It is a small crate and there really isnt much room. I have to give her a bath ALL the time as she smells like urine. What can I do?

Honestly, at 11 weeks old that's too long to expect her to hold it. Puppies that young don't have muscle control in their bladders, they really don't gain full control until about 6 months. A good rule of thumb is 1 hour per month of age, so at 11 weeks she should be going out about every 2.5 hours. Understand you have work considerations, I've had to work around that too and the best option for her is either hire someone to let her out once in the morning and once in the afternoon or find a daycare that you can take her too. I know ours here require the 2nd round of puppy shots, but we were able to get our pup in at 12 weeks. Good luck!

Why would she be able to hold it about 7 hours or so at night, but not be able to for 4 hours? I think it might be some stress or anxiety from being alone?

Nope.

There's a hormone secreted at night that allows them to rest and suppresses the need to pee. That hormone is not secreted during the day.

Also, how much room does she have in her crate? We initially had ours in a smaller crate, no accidents. Decided to open up the divider, and she started having pee accidents. Tightened it back down, no accidents all week. Our schedule for our 12wk old is Outside Pee/poop 715-720am. Family or friend come 1030am to let her out again. Then one of us come home around 1230-1. After that, not until 5pm, but we dont give her water after the 1030am visit.

It is a smaller crate I used for out yorkie, so she doesnt have too much room. Enought to lay and turn around in really. I have a large crate I was going to use for when she is bigger and I made a divider for it. I may try the large crate with the divider and make it a bit smaller than the small crate?

Having a smaller crate is just going to make her sit in her pee if she can't hold it - which will make her upset, or force her to hold it which can cause infections. Four hours is really too long for a puppy of that age. I know it is difficult when you are working, as I have been there. We had wonderful friends/family that would come and stay for three to four hours during the day with our puppy when she was that age.

If she is not having trouble housebreaking other than when you are leaving her, I would suggest purchasing an X-pen and putting newspaper or wee pads in the corner for her to pee on. Then she will stay clean, because she will have room to pee away from where she is sleeping and it should be easier clean up for you.
