| Guys, need some advice. Senior dog (11) has serious yeast infection all over her body for a long time, screen through many articles and yeast can be due to diet issue and 99% of the remedy recommend non commercial diet.
This is the scenario, before sticking with commercial diet, my dogs has always been under the raw diet, prey feeding model for many years, but we have swap to commercial kibble since 1 year ago due to bad diarrhoea with bleeding that occurs on the senior dog. We tried changing the recipe and supplies, even had the meat semi-cook or fully cooked, but diarrhoea persists. We concluded it could be due to old age, and probably internal organs might not able to handle. The problem only stop when we swap to commerical kibble instead.
However, commercial kibble has posed some issues such as bad tar on teeth, weight loss and yeast issue on the senior dog.
I will very much like to attempt non-commercial diet again, but every now and then when we tried feeding some meat, the diarrhoea and blood issue happens all over again the moment we start.
I'm really at a loss now, and very worried about the yeast issue. |

| It's late here for me, but i and any one else who may be of help to you, will want to know a few things if you don't mind giving extra info please.
1) What brands of kibble have you tried, and what types of protein?
2) What was your typical protein fed when you fed raw? As well as other food items, supplements, etc.
It may be helpful in knowing these things in order to give you some alternate feeding options. Thank you, and I'm so sorry to hear of your problems with your senior. I'm not at all sure I can help, I know some about nutrition for dogs, but i do not have a senior, nor experienced yeast issues, but others may be able to give you some insight. In any event, I wish you and your husky well.
The one thing I can mention to you that anything that is starchy, as in corn, potatoes(white and sweet), wheat, rice, even honey can produce a yeast infection. Using greek plain yogurt may help with counteracting the yeast. |

| Hi, to reply to your question 1. I have tried science diet, now on holisticselect brand on the fish selection. I do add in glucosamine and fish oil but have stop as it also cause diarrhoea at times i notice. 2. When going raw, I do give chicken thigh with skin and bone (200gms) (5 days a week), beef (1 day) and fish (1 day). In all days, I will include beef tripes, chicken feet, and chicken/duck glizzard. Sometimes they will get whole raw carrot and brocoli in the diet as well. Treats are given in the form of slice cheese only. During the raw feeding days, they have little stools, and a bit chalky due to the bones intake. I used to provide plain low fat yogurts, not sure if her stomach can take it but will try the method |

| Hi again!! I had some time to look up some info for you. Have you had your vet check over everything to make sure there is no underlying problem? Also it may be a good idea for your vet to test her and see what type of allergy she has, skin yeast infections typically come from a starch based allergy, as I mentioned above. Since even grain free kibble has some type of starch (haven't come across one yet that doesn't, still looking though, even potatoes are commonly used in grain free kibble, because many dogs have not been exposed to potatoes and allergies and intolerance are not as common with potatoes). Finding another protein source if you choose raw is another idea. Turkey, rabbit, lamb as ideas. If you can find a holistic vet, since they tend to lean towards raw diets and would be able to assist you better, I would go that route. The skin yeast infection may be another form of infection that produces loose stools when feeding raw. So getting to the bottom of the allergy is probably you best way on determining what to feed her. I wish you luck, and wish that I could help better. something to keep on hand if available to you is can pure pumpkin (not pie filling), this helps in loose stools as well as too hard stools, like yogurt giving a couple tablespoons can clear up stool problems for a healthy pet (even cats), I'm not so sure though that your girl is 100% healthy at the moment, so see a vet and take it from there. my best wishes to you and you older girl |

| If you do stick with kibble the thing I found that works best for yeast problems is something grain free with legumes instead of potatoes. I've seen a couple dogs I've worked with clear up once they made that switch. If you have it in your area try the Fromm Pork and Peas, or Lamb & Lentil. If that doesn't work you can try Instinct LID Lamb, it has some tapioca, which is a starch, but if your dog is reacting to something else in the food, that particular one only has 5 main ingredients so it's great for dogs with food allergies. You might want to also try Apple cider vinegar, it has some great benefits for both internal and external use. You could mix it 50/50 with water and use a spray bottle to apply it to the infected area as well as put it in there food or water daily. If you do a quick google search on it, you could find some more detailed instructions on how to use it with your husky. Hope you can get the problem under control! |
