Bandit has developed hot spots on the back of her leg. Shes been chewing and chewingand chewing. IIt's bad. No fur. Just bed skin, couple of scabs forming. The vet gave me these wipes to use and idk if they are working. I've stopped her from chewing on any of her skin at anytime I'm around. I know she still chews that spot cause her breathe smells like the wipes. I feel like it's getting worse. Now since I've stopped her from chewing anywhere now sometimes she starting to not clean herself after peeing. I'm afraid I'm going about this the wrong way. I've been putting some rubbing alcohol on there to keep it clean and hopefully she is deterred from chewing. What do I do? Any guidance?

The following advice came from a Corgie breeder, with around 30 years experience dealing with hots spots on hers and others dogs.

Dab affected area with 3% solution of Hydrogen Peroxide and then dab with Betadine liquid. This will dry out the area and aid quicker recovery.

Moisture is the main problem with hot spots, so you may need to resort to a cone of some description for a couple of days if you can't stop the licking.

In going forward, have a look at diet as I am a firm believer that most skin conditions have the source from within. Probiotics are excellent for re-establishing healthy gut flora and increases the ability to fight off potential infections.

Half a teaspoon of turmeric powder and a teaspoon of coconut oil added daily to the diet is also a great supplement.
