| Subject: Kicked out of daycare. Tue May 13, 2014 6:33 pm | |
| So the daycare/ boarding facility that I work at told me yesterday that Simon can not come back until he is fixed. I am sad about it because I had talked with them two weeks ago and they said as long as he didn't develop a behavior issue he could keep coming. There reason that they gave me is they might hire another employee and if they hired another employee and they can't have multiple intact dogs (even though we split dogs into groups all the time and they could just be in different groups.) I am not very surprised as the manager tends to say one thing one day and 100% change directions the next day. I also know that as a business it's easier and simpler to only have altered dogs which is why I was so excited that they said it wouldn't be an issue. As some of you know I want to wait 18 months to 2 years to alter Simon so he can get all his growing in. This hasn't changed my mind but I am going to miss bringing home a tired puppy after a full day of work and getting to work with and see him on my lunch break. I am just kind of down about it but I was wondering if some of the bad habits he was picking up was worth bringing him and now that's not an issue. Does anyone else feel like people get offended if you don't want to alter your puppy?

| Mine wasn't about being altered but we had this problem when Nikolai became the ring leader of an all big dog gang at daycare. He got him and Siku kicked out of the Monday and Friday group, so I feel your pain about not being able to take them when you want too.
I know Jen had this problem with Dizzy when he was asked to leave for neutering reasons, so I'm sure she will chime in here!
Maybe your manager will change her mind again, as you said she changes it a lot, but I agree with you about the bad habits that they pick up there, at least it hasn't changed your mind yet on waiting to get him fixed. and how old is Simon now? |

| Yeah I've never understood that, I mean everyone else is fixed that goes to that daycare, plus you work there, what is the harm of you leaving him the way he is for at least a couple more months and then take him out if he is aggressive. Its not like the second he turned 6 months, he will go crazy.
Once we found out Nikolai was only half neutered (long story) I left him in daycare and just didn't tell them, no harm was done and when he started getting more aggressive we took him out and I had the surgery done. |

| Yeah I had this issue with Diz and didn't send him for several months because of it. I ended up getting him neutered around 11 months.
As I understood it, it wasn't necessarily that he was being aggressive, but since he was in a hormonal peak, and most male dogs are not socialized around intact males, they would fixate on him and be aggressive toward him. I noticed this at the dog park too, so I stopped taking him there for a while. He also was just more charged in general so if a dog gave him crap, he would fight back and then a fight would ensue. He has a (for lack of a better term) very cocky and intensely confident personality and it instigates other dogs, so even now I have to keep an eye on him at the dog park and leave if certain dogs come in.
Our daycare was cool about it, and said they would let him keep coming if there weren't any issues, but once he started disrupting things, he was temporarily banned. Also, it's not that they worry about intact males being aggressive, or fighting with each other, its that neutered males are aggressive toward intact males, again because they are never socialized with them. You might be able to convince them to let you keep coming if he's not causing any problems by promising you will stop if issues pop up. |

| So I got back into daycare and he is still intact. How you ask? My manager decided I could bring him and he could play with my other dog or other employees dogs as long as they were fixed and the employee said it was okay. Why? I have no clue but I like work a lot better now that Simon can come. He now thinks every time I leave the house he gets to come. It's cute. Sadie's shots expired and the soonest I could get her in was next week so I wont be able to bring both of them till next week. Not sure why but he acts better at daycare then he does at the park more attentive and pays more attention to me. But I don't really know if I like doggy daycare that much but I do agree that they make working and having a dog easier. I can't wait till it's snowing and most of the dogs can't be out that long and Simon is just running and playing in the snow. |

You just described Lycus as well. For him, it barely started a few months ago. He picks on dogs and if they play with him back, great, if not, I have to pull him away because the other dogs get feisty and Lycus is quick to defend himself. Also if a dog comes in and Lycus is like "Oh you have balls? Let me try to hump you. You don't like it? I'll be an ass about it too." So Lycus and uneutered dogs are a no no really. He's a jerk about it and he's been neutered since he was about 6 months old. And I'm sorry to hear about Simon. Hopefully they'll change their minds so he can continue to be socialized. |

| Well enough people work there that now he can play with like 5 other dogs and we have lots of dog friends we visit so I am not to worried about him. I just like getting to see him at work. I have been dealing with some anxiety and stress issues and it's easier to handle with Simon there to back me up. |
