As you can tell my new husky has not had any grooming in sometime. I am not to sure where to start. I thought about taking her to petsmart but I called and thay wanted a ton of money because of here condition. She has some big knots of fur I think will have to be cut out I mean the size on baseballs. Is there something I can start on to help her for now. And what will I need a how do I use it? Jeff is right on, huskymom09 is great. Amymeme would be another good person as well, she has a rescue with a wooly coat and she has to constantly groom him, in fact it's almost a daily ritual for her. Good luck, it will mean a lot to her and you.

I am far from an expert - Ami had a short coat that was in excellent condition when we adopted him.  He hates grooming and hides whenever he sees me coming with a brush.  So I just do a few minutes at a time on any section that threatens to become matted - the worst mats I have had to deal with are only the size of a nickel and usually behind his ears.  The key for me is doing a little, daily.

Personally I would take her to a groom if the hair is in that bad of a condition and she has not been groomed much in the past. They can shampoo with "release type stuff" that help the mats loosen, they will have the correct tools to do the job and so on blah blah. It's kind of like you vacuum your carpet everyday but once in a great while you have the rug guy come and really clean them good. Maya gets all of her grooming at home but in the spring of the year I still take her in for a Salon Service, just a wash and set so to speak but it lets someone else she doesn't know work with her and I think that too is beneficial. My two cents worth of babble.
And remember people, Ohio Abbey is a trained groom and we have seen some of her work, and she will make a mini-sculpture of your dog while you wait LOL.

I agree, Im going to go ahead and take her to the groomer. Maybe once she gets done I can take care of her from then on. Thanks for the help. Do you think like petsmart or petco does a good job? I have heard mixed reviews. Thanks David

We have never take our boy to a groomer, never really had the need. But I have heard stories of groomers insisting on shaving huskies. DO NOT let them shave Zena unless the matts are that bad that it merits it (hard to tell from the picture, but she doesn't look all that bad). Shaving them ruins their double coat and exposes them to the elements that they shouldn't be.

I usually do the grooming myself... I did take her to the groomers once, and it was Petco.. I have no complaints about them, they did a really great job, and she smelled really good for like 3 months lol.

If your in a relatively large town, it might not hurt to try the smaller mom n pop groomers pricing as well. I have gound a great local groomer for nails teeth and grooming for much less than what petco charges and I feel more comfortable with them with Shadii than a big chain store

I found a local place close to where I live. I have a appointment Tuesday for a complete grooming. I will try to get some before and after pics. Thanks David
