| Hey Everyone,
Firstly, I must say this forum has been REALLY helpful!
I am based out of India. I am thinking of getting a sibe. I am supposed to go and visit a kennel over the weekend. I just got to know through a friend that 2 sibes are available. I have been planning on getting a dog for over a decade now, but had a lot of factors discouragining and so have never managed to take the plunge. I live in a spacious apartment with three balconies. I am still very nervous if I am making the right decision because I am scarerd about being a bad parent. I have been meeting people with dogs in the apartment complex where I stay, have met with other people who own a sibe and stay in apartments, but i am still nervous about the first step. I work from most days. My fiance is also crazy about getting the husky home, but neither of us have had pets ever. We have researched a lot and decided the schedule and the name....
I have had people encourage me as well tell me that I should not do it..
Did any of you go through this nervousness whether you were doing the right thing? |

| Hello,
As a family we were first time owners as well. Of course we were nervous, but like you we did a lot of reading and were prepared to care for a young puppy. There were very few surprises.
Dogs are adaptable animals and will be content wherever they live provided that they have their needs met. The first one that comes to my mind is exercise, and physical exertion. If you can provide that it does not matter where you live. Be aware that Huskies can have a lot of energy that they need to burn off.
We live in a house with a fenced in backyard, so it is difficult to give insight as to how easy or tough it will be living in an apartment. Although I can say that our puppy needs relieve herself every 2 hours during the day and can go for about 7 hours through the night. You may want to read about paper training depending how easy it is for you to get outside.
IMO if your are committed you should be fine.
I truly feel like our family has ben enriched since we got Riley.
Good Luck and welcome to the forum! |

| I had a lot of people tell me I shouldn't get a husky when I first started really planning to get one. Several of my family had had them before and had terrible luck with them, but I also knew that they were wanting them to behave like a hound or lab and they simply do not. I opted to rescue my first rather than jump into a puppy as our lifestyle at the time didn't really allow time to do things like potty train. If you are real about what you are capable of and, like Jeff said, committed to doing whatever it takes to make life with one work, you will be fine. Exercise, exercise, exercise. Both mental and physical. Welcome to the forum and we love pictures whenever you find your new furbaby. _________________ |

| Thanks, Jeff and Jenn! I will definitely keep you'll posted. It has almost become a obsession between my fiance and me. We have finally decided the date!! Yoda (The name we would like to have ) comes in the first week of December, right after our wedding! I don't think we are talking about the details of our wedding half as much as we are talking about getting Yoda and the things we need to do before we welcome him in our family! |

Did any of you go through this nervousness whether you were doing the right thing? Hello, Your situation sounds so similar to ours. My fiance and I have wanted a husky since we started dating over 9 years ago. We eventually want to own two huskies, and have them both named already. My last dog, a 10 year old Pomeranian, passed away in April, but since we still live with my parents, I had to tread lightly with bringing a new furry friend into the house. After getting my dad on my side, which was key, I was in the clear.. but I was still so nervous about making such a big decision on my own (you didn't have to ask my fiance twice, he's been begging me to agree to get the dog since last year, lol). Juggling that, with our upcoming wedding in December, and everyday life did make me a little nervous, but there is definitely something missing from our lives, and the absence of a dog is so noticeable. We also had tons of people telling us not to do it, but if you are an animal person, there is just something special that comes with owning a dog. We also knew that Huskies were a unique breed that would require a different kind of care than what we gave our Pomeranian. We decided a few months ago to go for it, and our baby Roxy comes home tomorrow. We are beyond obsessed with her. Like you, we are talking about the dog so much and now the wedding is kind of just there now.. I keep saying I'd rather hang out with her than go on a honeymoon, which we have yet to book. We loved getting everything ready for her, and had so much fun preparing for her arrival. The next 24 hours are going to go by so slow, but I cannot wait until she is here. I think you made the right choice, and you are going to be so happy once Yoda is with you! Good luck with everything, and I can't wait to hear all about Yoda! Suzanne |

| Hey Suzanne,
thank you so much for your reply! It is indeed very assuring to get your reply right when I was starting to doubt things. Over the weekend I was visiting a few friends and got the same advise about why I should not get a dog, and especially a husky. My fiance and I have massively cut our wedding budget to get the husky. Unlike you, this will be my first pet.
And yes, agree with Amy, Roxy is a darling! |
