Uhhhh, unless you're Prince Ami on the 2nd floor of a hotel room... I didn't hesitate when I took Ami up to the room at night and neither did he. Until the next morning when I took him out to pee. About 10 feet from the stairway entrance, Mr. Dog suddenly flattens himself on the floor and refuses to budge. I tug a bit on the harness and his neck magically stretches 4X it's length. Looks like a turtle coming out of it's shell. Ok, we can deal with this, she says. Down to the other end of the corridor, maybe fake him out. Nope. About 15 ft from the stairwell, repeat flatten. Turn around without standing up, ears flat out to the side, hugging the wall, head to the floor, crawl verrrry carefully, back to the room. "HELP, rescue me DA DDD DY!!!!!" So we try again - Mr. Dog notices a window at the end of the corridor - it's just above his head and slightly open at the bottom - he sniffs the air and decides that might be a much better way down So we repeat all the above scenarios, only this time, I am a little more insistent and he is a LOT more resistant! Somehow, hind legs are splayed out and in front of his front legs. Ears wildly flat out to the side. Eyes wide with terror. All of his toenails splayed and dug into the carpet, just like a cat. Then the maid comes by and he hides behind her By this time, we are going to be late for my Mom's morning get together and I am beginning to ponder calling the fire dept to carry him down Finally, I just grab hold of his harness and combination lift and drag the poor beasty into the stairwell and to the stairs, he is past the abyss and suddenly scrambles down the evil stairs as fast as he can...

Yes - he is one silly boy! I feel really badly that I had to drag him instead of try and calm his fears but I was in a time crunch - my Mom wanted to introduce me to come to her 9 AM gathering. I think the problem was the narrow bars on the railing as you enter the stairwell - it was open to the bottom and must have appeared to be a cliff In retrospect, I should have gone back to the room, got his blanket and lay it over the railing. The whole experience was simultaneously hysterically funny, very frustrating and heartbreaking. I'm afraid I could have done better with the poor boy. However - he thoroughly enjoyed being in the hotel room with us (again with the midnight zoomies in full husky voice )

LOL, gotta love the zoomies! You did the best you could in a time crunch. Good for you for trying to figure out what the issue was, though. Live and learn!

Thanks, Jen. It would be lovely to meet you some day. Though I must say, you have your own communicative talents and NYC looks somewhat less than enticing today Makes my war with deer, rabid raccoons and ticks look like a sunny walk in the park!
