Hey everyone,

so my friend just bought a chewing bone for my dog. On the package it says, helps whited teeth, helps with tartar and it freshens breath. The thing is that it looked very cheep. No warnings or any type of info.

As soon as my dog started chewing and biting on this he started to bleed. Now im sure the blood has to due with his gums but i want to know is it ok if he bleeds? Or is it also bad for his teeth, like he might break one.

He may indeed break a tooth, especially if he's a heavy chewer. No package info at all? My girl loves bones, but I give her soft type, and she's more of a scraper vs heavy chewer, so I have never seen blood on her. Be watchful, although after seeing blood I'd probably take it away.

Does your dog eat the bone as well?

Yes she does, but I stick to fresh from the butcher, rib, or t-bones, and she will eat, pretty much every bit of it.

Probably best to not let him have that any more :/ I have never had a dog bleed from a bone....and sketchy seeing as there was no info on the package.

One thing I really like for chewing is antlers, they don't crack or splinter...I just make sure to take it away once it is small enough for him to swallow by accident

I have been using a free range bully stick for Riley. She loves it and has not had any bleeding at all.

Bode loves his antlers and real bones and never had any issues. However, Nylabones without fail make his gums bleed so he doesn't get them anymore. Too bad because he loves them!

I've been lucky so for with a Nylabone. He doesn't get it often, I just keep one in the car at all times so I don't have to worry about slimy bones getting stuck under the seats or anything. 99% of the time, it is antlers and real bones

I should mention that he is a puppy and probobly teething so he rubs it on his gums so thats why it bleeds. Also I learned the hard way becuase he threw up big time!
