I need to know some trick for using a KONG toy. When i feed him, he just smell the KONG toy and walk elsewhere. :'( |

| Hello, Pear!
What kind of treat are you putting inside the toy? It matters a lot actually... If you just put in the standard dog food that you use, it usually isn't enough to motivate them. Try putting in something you know your pup loves along with whatever the KONG thing came with. I'm not too familiar with the toy but I have a few friends who do use it... |

| I haven't used a Kong for a husky, but I use them all the time with my Lab. She has issues when we put her in her crate when we first leave for the day, and I give her one as a distraction. Regular kibble is boring, they get that everyday. I put a small treat in the little hole and then I'll fill it with a mixture of wetted kibble and canned food and then seal the big hole with a little peanut butter. Then, I freeze it in the freezer. Keeps my Lab busy for a good hour or so. If I do this I usually reduce some of the food she gets the rest of the day. For something a little lower in fat (if you're wanting to just give as a treat) I'll mix plain yogurt and canned pumpkin (plain pumpkin, not the pumpkin pie mix) to stuff with instead of the kibble and canned food. That's what I do, but you can do a Google search of Kong stuffing recipes or ideas and they'll give you lots of ideas! If you're looking for a way to just keep your pup busy, the stuffing and freezing route is the way to go. |

| When I first got my Kong for my husky pup, Doom, he wasn't really into it no matter what I put in there. I found making it extremely easy for him to get things out at first (to the point of it just falling out, basically) worked in getting him interested, now that he "understands" the toy, I can stuff to where it's very difficult for him to get the treats and he will spend the time on it in most cases. (Not all the time, but, you know, he's a husky..). Perhaps give this method a try? It might work for your dog as well. |

| Ami won't work for anything that's pastey stuck in the toy (now, an empty peanut butter jar, THAT is worth working for ) But, he gets about 1/4 of his kibble in his kong everynight at bedtime - and he loves it. I give it to him every night sitting with him as a bonding ritual. He also loves to play "chase the kong" - it bounces so unpredictably. |
