Hello,

I am new to this forum and to being owned by a Husky, so if this question has been repeated a million times, please accept my apologies.

We just brought home an 8 week old Husky named Chloe. We cannot get her to eat anything. She is not lethargic or acting ill. She is drinking plenty of water. She is a wonderful pup, loves to play, is best buddies with my 1 year old Min Pin/Russel mix.

Tomorrow will be day 3 of her being with us. I am so worried about her.

She has had a full vet check. Been de-wormed, vaccinated, and treated for any parasites. All checked out fine. I am still going to call my vet in the morning, luckily they are open on Christmas Eve.

I have read that this breed is very finicky, very sensitive to change. Is this true? Could she just be adjusting to her new home. I can imagine coming from a breeder to us has been a big change.

Any advice would be wonderful.

Huskies are, indeed, finicky eaters and VERY sensitive to any change! Did she come with the food she was eating at the breeder's or are you feeding something different?
It CAN take a while for a new husky to get used to their new diggs....I must say tho that I would getting concerned about it soon. It's good she's drinking water. It could just be nerves. Unfortunately, I don't have much puppy experience, but if you are patient, I am sure there will be others here who will chime in soon.

Huskies are VERY picky eaters and very sensitive to change. When we leave, Koda will stop eating as well. He also won't eat when we go to new people's houses, or even to a house he doesn't go to often. It's very possible that she is still adjusting.

Try giving her a couple of scrambled eggs and see if she won't eat that if you can't stand to watch her not eat, but if I were you, I wouldn't give in. She'll eat when she's hungry. You don't want to start spoiling her now

When we first adopted Ginger, she didn't eat for almost 3 days. But she was drinking water. Eventually, she would eat treats but not her kibble. She would take bites of cheddar cheese, plain yogurt, and Beggin' Strips (she came with them from the rescue along with a couple of servings of her kibble). Eventually, I learned she also liked fresh, steamed salmon. So, I started to flake salmon in her kibble and eventually got her eating on a regular schedule. Scrambled eggs or even hard boiled eggs are also good to try to get her to eat. Once you find something she likes, try mixing that in with her food.

They are VERY sensitive to change in their food, some more than others. (Ginger is one those sensitive ones) and I have learned that introducing a new/different food or treat needs to be very gradual.

Thanks you all for the wonderful advice. Vet says she is fine. Adjusting, and maybe the fact that was on an antibiotic called Metronizadole from the breeder. I hate this stuff, they are always trying to give it to my rescue ferrets for ulcers and I refuse, its so harsh on their tummies. I am thinking besides everything else she is going through the side effects from that could have attributed to her loss of appetite. Sadly Chloe cannot tell us what she is feeling.

THE GOOD NEWS!! She started eating today. And is being a monster puppy. HaHa. My daughter started laying out her kibble in a row on the floor and she started making a game out of it and the little pup started eating. I have seen her at the food bowl many times.

This is relief.

I will continue to monitor her and keep you all posted.

canned tripe is also a great way to get them to eat, it's absolutely disgusting but it works. Very recently Ranger started giving us fits about eating. Took him to the vet and found out some interesting news. He's got a pericardiam diaphragmatic hernia, his intestines wrap around his heart, on top of that he had some white mass moving through his intestines, likely parts of a mole he got out in the yard. Did a barium xray series and found everything moving along, the white mass is likely why he wasn't eating. He still gives me finicky days and when he does I mix a bit of canned tripe in with his food and he scarfs it right down!
