Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect. 2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff. 3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. | Welcome to the forum Samantha!!
Nice looking dogs. What area of Texas if you don't mind me asking? Lots of info, help and good people here. Bless you for getting an adult husky, and deaf too!! Wow, they're so smart, if you have any questions or need help, there is a great search engine here as well as knowledgeable people.

Thanks! We are in Brookshire, Texas about 40 minutes west of Houston. He already knows a few hand signals so that's a plus! The big thing we are working on is he is VERY vocal when he knows he's going somewhere. Like he's excited to get out on the road lol and he has some resource guarding issues but nothing terrible!

I'm glad to hear you're relaxed about everything. Most huskies are vocal, mine has daily conversations and occasional arguments with me, lol. There are some great threads on guarding, although it sounds like you've got a handle on it. I was hoping you were closer, bummed, the more playmates the better. Have fun with your new, beautiful boy!

Thank you, we plan on starting to go to the dog parks once he is more settled in. We got him from Texas Sleddog Rescue. I know they have get togethers at different dog parks and other places around Texas.

Great rescue. He's very pretty. My grandma had a deaf dog years ago and he wasn't much different than any other dog. He learned hand signals and they got his attention by stomping their feet on the ground. The only thing we noticed with that dog was that being in congested areas made him a little nervous due to not being able to hear other dogs or people approach him from behind, but if he could feel them through vibrations in the ground he was okay. Good luck and welcome! _________________

Thanks, he doesnt seem any different than a normal dog except when I want his attention I have to stomp or go poke him :-P Both my dogs like to play rough so Ares doesn't seem to mind the surprise attacks from Atlas. We've only had him a week now and he has fit in so well :-)

Hey Atlas, Welcome to the forum the the Terlingua / Big Bend Region of Texas!! Since Husky's have a bad reputation for having very selective hearing, there shouldn't be a big difference between a normal Husky and one who's deaf! << okay, that was bad, sorry >> Thanks for rescuing a Husky, there'r just too many of them in rescue and "shelter's" now, really appreciate you for bringing one home. I'd have said something earlier, but I'm on solar and just had a bout with to bad batteries, but I *think* I'm back up now! _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford .
