| My female husky Indi is having serious separation anxiety when we leave her in the crate while we are at work. She is 8 months old and house broken. She sleeps out of the crate at night on the floor and even sometimes sleeps in the crate with the door open at night. She doesn't have any issues holding it all night long (8-10 hours). She willingly runs into her crate when I put peanut butter in her Kongo and she will eat her food in her crate. However, as soon as we walk out of sight she starts to howl, and pees on herself. She could have just went potty outside but if she is in her crate for 10 mins with us not there she pees herself. She will destroy the towels I leave in the crate and even tear the foam under her crate and bite at the wall. She broke out of the crate the other day while I was at work. She did not chew anything but her toys and did not potty in the house. However, I am scared to leave her out in the house because she is very young and I am afraid if she sees us leave she will be destructive in the house like she is in the crate. We have tried leaving dogTV on for her to watch. We put toys in the crate and treats. We have another dog (lab mix female) we used to leave out in the house but now with both dogs I am scared to leave them out the crate while I am away because they play rough and I am scared they could accidentally hurt one another while we are at work. Any advice? I feel so bad for our husky Indi because she end up sitting in pee during the day. |

| RE: Dog TV - I am reading a book (Inside of a Dog, What dogs see, smell, and Know). Apparantly, dogs do not see TV like we do - they have a higher "flicker rate" and so TV to them is a series of still images interspersed with black space. How they know that, I have no clue! |

| Yes, I to have read "Inside of a Dog".. Dog TV plays alot of noises the are soothing to dogs. It was suggested to me by a vet to leave music on and since I don't have a radio or anything where the crate is I use a recording of Dog TV (relaxation episode) so she can listen to the noises. |

| Any time we leave the property, we give Ami a bone (but you need to know how your dog is with a bone - apparently some dogs crack their teeth or choke on large pieces - Ami just slowly gnaws on them the buries whatever is left). He is on outside 100 ft overhead trolley in private fenced back yard, the last thing before we leave, he gets the bone and doesn't even notice us leaving |

| You can do something that I would say are some baby steps with her. In cases of anxiety when alone, you need to work her up to knowing you're going to come back.
First get her in the crate, to where she is comfy, stay in the room, do a normal activity that you would do in that room. Get up and walk out. Go the direction out that would normally make her feel like your leaving. Like, going out the front door, or grab your car keys, put on your shoes (each time) etcetera... you may hear some normal whimpering. Wait a few seconds, come back in, acknowledge her, then go back to what you were doing. Repeat this process, but gradually increase the time before you come back slowly. Like do 5 seconds, the first 4 times, then 10 seconds, then 15 and so on. Dogs can have a conception of time if you work them up to it. Okami is at about 6-8 hours max now before she starts flipping out that I'm not there. She used to have severe separation anxiety as a pup. Only with me too. So I worked her up to the amount she can be without me using this method. I mean, she still has signs of separation anxiety. She will power jump on me right when I open the crate, give me "You were gone for 10 forevers" kisses... it is manageable now that she understands I will come back. |
