A few months ago my husband and I bought our Kodah from a man on Craigslist. He told us our boy was full husky, however, his facial structure seems different than most huskies. When he started playing with the other huskies at the dog park we noticed he was already slightly bigger than the full grown huskies, and he's still a puppy. His paws are huge! We are thinking maybe he could be mixed with german shepherd? Maybe malamute?
I would love to have some more input on what our boy could be mixed with!
I have attached a link above from my tumblr that shows a few photos of Kodah.
Thanks! |

| Welcome Brooke,
I am not an expert neither, but I also say GSD. It is a common mix husky/gsd, I am not as familiar with malamutes, although larger than husky, mals maintain small paws and ears are smallish and rounded. I had the same questions with my girl Miya, you can see her big ears in my avatar, she too has larger paws, taller, and heavier. She has the stature of gsd with the markings of a husky and most of her behavior and personality says husky. Do you have picks of litter mates or parents? Renee |

| He could be full husky and just badly bred. He looks more like a badly bred husky than a mix to me. But without testing you'll never know for sure. And as far as size goes, I'm sad to say that most huskies I run into are way over breed standard. My adult male is at the top of the standard and we've met husky puppies larger than he is. So it's not as uncommon as you might think. _________________ |

| Val, I failed to add that, if my girl is not husky/gsd, she definitely is from a byb, so a poorly bred husky. Thank you for adding that for the original poster. |

| What a handsome boy!
Yeah I see GSD in there. And as for the size, a client of ours bred an old line of GSD, they were stunning & they had this one dog that was the size of a giant Saint-Bernard & I asked if he was a mix Saint/GSD. Nope, her was 100% GSD from his line. As well, my Husky's father is over 100 lbs & looks to be a malamute (he is purebred) & is beautifully proportioned without an ounce of fat. He's not chunky at all either.
I also have a client who has a purebred Borzoi who is bigger than the norm. All his litter mates grew up to be of regular size. He too is perfectly proportioned.

| I agree with Val, a badly bred husky. Although the ears are big, most puppies go through a really awkward phase and their ears look gigantic and way over sized. I was worried my pups ears would be huge, but he turned out okay... |

| He just might be a Malamute cross considering his size. I have met some big boys in my time at the shelter and he looks like a Malamute named Trooper I knew there. |
