PostSubject: Potty Training an older Husy mix   training - Potty Training an older Husy mix EmptyWed Jul 02, 2014 7:35 pm

Hello,

I currently have a 2 1/2 yr old (60lb) Husky/Low-content Wolf/Native American Indian Dog. I didn't adopt it, but my previous renter who bread three generations of dogs to make this one, basically left him with me when he moved out of state. I have been told we can either keep him or sell him. My biggest problem though, is that at 2 1/2, he is unfixed, and his dominance traits have come out where he has to mark almost everything in the house. If we turn our backs, I can find carpet, sofa's, or most recently my cabinets marked.

He is an absolutely sweet dog, that is more husky than he is wolf (about 30% wolf). You can pick him up, toss him, he plays with kids, puppies, etc. He doesn't dig, howl, bark, or anything. He is just a gentle soul that plays well with my Golden Retriever/Australian Shephard mix. But if I cant get this marking under control, I am going to have to sell him. Any thoughts?

Note: He is crate trained for when we leave the house.

Thanks.

Getting him fixed will make a huge difference. I just rescued an unfixed 2 year-old male that marked everywhere. About a week after getting keno fixed we were able to house train him like we would a puppy and he's had no issues. He still marks some outside but nothing like before and only after my other dog. Just make sure you really hit any previous urine spots with an enzyme spray to take any trace away to not tempt him.
