| Ok, let me state for the record that I know diddly about Siberian Huskies, but since the newest addition to my little pack is a rescue & looks like either a GSD or a Husky to my untrained eye, I thought I'd ask you guys what you think, 'cuz you seem friendlier than the GSD forum I lurked at! Savana is a ~3 y/o spayed female, 40 lbs. before blowing coat. Take a look--do you think she has husky in her? It would help to know her dominant breed for training! She has a quirk that's driving me crazy, but given her background & timidity I don't want to correct her for an inherent behaviour if it's something I'll have to learn to live with, you know? P.S. if I didn't get the photo attachment right, I'll keep trying--but Savvy's got sable/agouti colouring depending on which website you're looking at. Her (thick!) undercoat isn't pure white, it was more cream on her underside and reddish on her back. Of course, now it's mostly drifting around on the floor or clogging the assortment of grooming tools I purchased in desperation, lol...

| I'm trying! But either my Smartphone (aka my only link to the outside world in my rural location) isn't smart enough or I'm more of a duh! than I thought. Either way, despite reading the instructions several times I can't get my phone to cut & paste the url to my message. |

| Just wondering are you clicking the insert an image icon and then pasting the url link into the url field? Or are you just trying to copy the url and then paste it with your message? Just pasting the url into your message won't work! |

| It's actually the copy/paste function that isn't working on my phone...This might have to wait until I get to a computer tomorrow. |

| You can post it publicly on facebook then copy the image URL? And personally I do not believe in 'Having to live with something because of the breed' good training can take care of any quirk that you do not desire, just be aware it may be a lot of consistent and long training process. What is the quirk that she has?? |

| Yayyy, photo attached!!
Loki, I'm not a big fan of letting dogs "get away with" stuff, either...however, if Savvy's a husky I'd know I'm not likely to be as successful at training 100% reliable recall, and would take the precaution of always ensuring she's leashed or safely contained for her own safety, for example.
The quirk I'm referring to is her need to "capture" your hands and lick them (she has scratchy paw pads!) or to be smothering me with attention. Oddly, she only does this when I'm seated--when I'm standing she's very reserved. I've taught her "off" but since her background includes abuse, abandonment and several years as a feral "village" dog, I don't want to jeopardize her fledgling trust in humans by correcting what--to her--is an inherent behaviour.

| To me she looks GSD/Heeler, but could be GSD/Husky. Shepherd looks most dominant though size would suggest there's a smaller breed in there somewhere. She's very pretty. My dog was taught to shake and as a result puts her foot up for everything trying to shake for her treats when I don't want her to. I've been forcing her foot down and telling her no when she does it, shortly followed by giving her a different command such as lay down or sit. If she's having a very footsy day I brush her off and ignore anytime she does it. For licking you might try latex gloves covered in bitter spray to deter her when she's in a position to sit and lick at you and see how that works. _________________ |

| Hmm, I'm not seeing the Heeler/GSD at all, either in conformation or behaviour--thank heavens, quite the opposite. I'm wondering what you're seeong that makes you think Heeler? We don't see too many up our way, as working dogs go they aren't really matched to our climate.

| Roundness of the face and eye set is what had me thinking heeler. I'm by no means a dog expert. We have a ton of heelers here. Shepard I get from markings and ears. Belgian malinios may be more closely colored than the gsd. Looks to have pretty good sized ears in picture. There are a number of breeds though that could fit better as you start posting more pictures. And others with a larger breed knowledge can then really start dialing it in. _________________ |

| I guess most of the huskies on this forum are fro show rather than working lines? The later are a closer match to Savvy I'm told. |

| I've seen a lot of working line huskies through various groups and forums, and from what I've seen, I'm more inclined to believe the GSD theory. I'm not an expert either, but whether show or working line, it is certain she does not look like a purebred Siberian no matter what coloring she is classified as. And to my untrained eye, I would say she doesn't have any Siberian. She certainly is a cutie regardless! Here is a picture taken by my best friend of a variety of sibes, just to use for comparison, mainly pet lines. |

| Well, according to the GSD forum she looks like a sibe. Point taken, I'll take my cute mud-blood rescue off to play reindeer games with the rest of the rescues : p |
