Hi! I was wondering at what age do huskies lose their puppy fur and can u really tell? I remember going to petsmart one day and met this couple who have 3 beautiful husky. I of course pet all three of them and notice that two of them their fur are not as soft as my pup (their pup was six months old, 9 months, and 1 and a half years) my pup at the time was about 5 months mayb 5 in a half months old. is it genetic for husky to have soft and not so soft fur or did they apply something on to the fur?

There are definitely different "types" of coat that can contribute to that. The puppy fur thing can also depend on when they were born (winter/summer etc...) My boy was born in the summer, so he wasn't old enough to shed his coat before winter. He didn't end up losing puppy fur until his first coat blow at 1+ year old.

Huskies generally shed their coats twice a year. Once before and once after Winter. The coat blow that is the worst is the one before winter. They usually will blow their coats after a year old.

Depending on the huskies coat type, how much they shed or how coarse/soft the fur feels.

Diet, sun exposure, grooming regiments, genetics...all play a part in coat condition and quality.
