Nala does not like groom AT ALL, she is horrible when it comes to grooming I think she gets anxiety she gets snappy and yelps and yelps its so hard to find someone to groom her and she hasn't started blowing coat yet so that's starting to worry me a little bit, I'm hoping after I do get her groomed that it will loosen up some of her undercoat, but does anyone have any suggestion on getting Nala more acquainted with grooming, since we don't do it often she despises it. Is this a husky thing or is it a Nala thing LOL, any input helps!

I think a lot of them have trouble with it, especially if they aren't used to it. Do you have any of those self wash places near you? I just do Diz in the bathtub, but would totally do the self bath if I could. We used to take Tasha to one and it was easier than doing it at home. The self washes are nice because they have deep tubs with a grooming noose (don't worry it's not as awful as it sounds), but it's a little better because you're there, vs. leaving her with a stranger. Anyway, I'd try one of those, and take a partner with you if you can, and have them feed her cheese or something really awesome throughout the whole process. I'm guessing the dryer will be the scariest thing for her, so you might have to ease her into that over a few times. Take her on a warm sunny day in case you can't get her all the way dried while you're there. It's cheaper and probably less traumatic for her if you're there.

Okay, yeah that sounds good there is one right down the road I can try that hopefully that works the few times she has been groomed its been at Petsmart and they obviously don't know how to handle her we always have to pick her up half wet with soap still in her, so I will look into doing a self wash one I also need to get her dew claws trimmed so maybe they can at least do that for us too.

Ami hated grooming when we got him - at best I could do several strokes with an undercoat rake...actually, he still is not to keen on it. But there is hope - in the form of a nice big bone And, after trying several tools, my husband asked why not just use a regular hair brush? I had an old one with little balls on the ends of the bristles - wide spaced thickish plastic bristles (I have very long, very fine, easily snarled hair so I can commiserate with the big boy). He seems to tolerate the brush better than any of the other tools I purchased. I use the hair brush and separate a section of hair so I can see his skin and just softly but deeply rake out the undercoat (and since he's most likely a woolly, there is a LOT of undercoat.) I do a little every day or two, its a ritual - give him a bone, let him get into it and then pick a quadrant for thorough work and towards the end of the bone, go over the whole of him lightly to keep up whats already been raked. For keeping him smelling good I use a waterless shampoo foam (but not too often - it removes his tick protection - the preventic collar works by spreading amitraz through the fatty substances in coat and skin). I never pushed him to do more than he was comfortable with though I do admit to scootching all over the kitchen to stay close to him Also, the little play pool is where I wash him outdoors, in parts. He is coming up on a whole body, wet shampoo when its time to put a new tick collar on...we'll see how that goes This would all work better if the big boy would keep out of the muddy ditches but its hot out and walking in the cool mud/water helps keep him cool. Oh well..

The stuff I use is Wahl No-rinse waterless shampoo, lavender chamomile. The scent is not overpowering at all, takes care of husband's complaint about doggy odor. Once I get it on him, (he objects to the spfft sound )I just squish it around in his fur really well and then use a towel to fluff him up. When I catch him again, I use the hairbrush. Husband likes the stuff enough, he's asked to use it on his sheepskin motorcycle seat |

I got it at walmart. I think (?) I also saw it for sale on Amazon but not sure. Petco has some similar things in their store. Initially, I was afraid the bottle would be gone in 1 use but it comes out as a foam so it really expands and you don't use a lot at any 1 time. Also - what kind of bedding do you use? Odor on Ami was not a problem in the winter - he had straw bedding in his dog house and smelled like a hay field Now, with the funky mud he trots through, it's become an "issue" And today, he is really STINKY after his walk - I'll have to kick his hot, fluffy butt out of the house around 5:30 so I can vacuum up his sand and hair, wash the floor and deodorize the kitchen before hubby gets home - his nose is much more sensitive than mine. I've tried to take him out a couple of times - once he ran around a bit, peed and went straight to the back door. The other 2 times, he would look out the open door at the sunshine and refuse to come out (It's 80° for the first time this year). Well, at least I'm getting lots of laundry washed, dried and folded.
