| Hey all. I was referred to this website through a Facebook group. My husky was sitting in a shelter for over a month, about to be euthanized before I heard about him and immediately went to adopt him. I don't have any freedom pictures yet. I get to pick him up today from the shelter after work. I am beyond excited! I've never raised a husky before, and I realize they are a challenging, energetic breed. So I welcome the challenge. I luckily live close to the hills/mountains so we will certainly be going on hikes/walks that I would not attempt alone. This dog was deemed very aggressive towards other animals at the shelter. That may have been why nobody wanted to adopt him, however for the brief moments I met him at the shelter, he was nothing but loving to all people around him. When I first met him in his "cell", he kept his head down and would not look up at all. As if defeated. (I probably would feel the same way too, if I was stuck in a small cell for over a month!) ....And he stunk, badly. So today he will be getting the best possible treatment I can provide (including a water-less bath, because he is getting neutered sometime today). I would be lying if I said my memory foam mattress on my bed felt better than the bed I purchased for him, lol. Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself. I plan to read and learn as much as I can on here about these guys. I'll post pictures as soon as I get some. |

| Oh what a handsome boy He is a heart melter for sure. My suggestion on the aggressive nature he shows, get a personal trainer or go to obedience classes... but I would suggest a personal trainer for the main fact of aggression, you don't want to throw him in a situation where he might be set up to fail in an environment full of animals. A personal trainer would be able to figure out the speed or pace that in which your dog needs to learn how to handle those types of situations. I am so happy to hear that he is a saved soul because of you, congratulations on your new family member! |

| If you can, I would ask the shelter what kind of animals he was aggressive towards and what were the signs that he showed of aggression. If its only him being rough with like small dogs, or him going after a cat or something I would understand because of their prey drive, but if it was every animal large or small, and he was showing true signs of aggression I would agree with Lucy on what to do!
Enjoy him, he is absolutely beautiful! |

Enjoy him, he is absolutely beautiful! I strongly agree with Erica. Our breed plays so different than most other breeds. I would still be cautious but maybe you can have some hopes of him being more friendly with other dogs than you think. |

| Hey everyone! Thanks for the warm welcome. We were caught by our FB group on the way out of the shelter yesterday and they snapped a photo of us: And here he was last night after relaxing a little: (Excuse the wires, I need to clean those up and move them.) To answer one of the previous questions, during his stay at the shelter, I personally observed him being hostile towards dogs his size (and possibly larger?) However, on our short stroll this morning, there were dogs barking at him that caught his interest, but he did not act in the same manner. Before, it looked like he wanted to kill the others, today he just had a curious look on his face. Hopefully, his personality mellows out a little now that he's in a new environment and not locked up for a 30+ days. |

| Congrats, I'm a new mom myself. Its going to be trying at times but remember why you took him home to begin with. You'll love him even when you want to tear your hair out. When they say huskies are high energy, thats putting it lightly. You're young, you can handle it. Joining this site was a good start. Feel free to add me on facebook. Knowledge is power so learn all you can and don't be afraid to ask for help. My best advice is remember you are the pack leader and he'll naturally want to please you, but he will also challenge that and see if you let him get away with it. huskies are comical in that. My Baby mouths me all the time when I tell him to do something he doesn't want to. Be firm, don't ask, tell him what you want and expect him to obey. But make it about having funny when you can. Thanks for rescuing a beautiful dog. Enjoy the ride~ Addie |

| He is very handsome! It's great that you were able to be there for him. I wish people would think about the commitment it takes to raise a dog before getting one...so many end up in shelters because of adopting on a whim for their kids or something (I don't know many kids that would be willing to pick up after the dog so adults should take that into consideration before buying one for them).
Good luck on your training efforts! In my mind anyone can become a good trainer with the right knowledge and determination. That and a lot of obedience classes wont take "problem" cases or anything they deem too hard to deal with. |

| Thanks everyone. I'm learning something new every day since I've had him! He needs to learn boundaries better and to be good around other dogs. But we're learning! We've only known each other for about 5 days now, lol. |
