| Hey! So I just became the proud mommy of a three year old husky girl:)! And she is just so amazing I love her but I want to make sure she's getting the play time and exercise that she needs to be happy healthy and most importantly calm. I normally take her for at lest a 45 minute walk in the morning before I leave for class and then another one when I get home but I was wondering how bad of an idea it would be to try and skate board with her? I adopted her on friday and have been trying to run with her but I feel like I can't keep up a decent pace for her to bound (other then short sprints) |

| It would be a great idea, as long as you do some things to keep her and you safe. I would first try it in a low traffic/low distraction area, so that she has less reason to bolt or chase stuff. Also make sure you get whatever gear you need to protect yourself from road rash and head injury. I would also suggest using a slack line attached to a gentle leader or no pull harness, kind of as an emergency or backup in case she does bolt hopefully she wouldn't be able to pull you off balance too badly. You could probably stop using those once you trust her/know her better. Then, just make sure you start at very brief distances and short time periods. Since she's a rescue, you don't know her fitness level, so you would want to start slow and build up. She will probably want to run more than is good for her, I know mine does, so your job is to protect her from herself and learn what her limits are. I'd love to see some pictures! |

| dog parks are great for running out the energy! just stay safe if you do board but i would work up to that with teaching her commands like you would if you were sledding, direction, stop, go, slow, things like that so when you do get her boarding with you you have some control over her. and as jen stated wear all the gear to keep you both safe. thanks for adopting! _________________ |

| Thank you! I was nervous to try it because I've only ever seen biking or roller blading and didn't know if there was a particular reason why no one skate boarded. I have a no pull harness and lots of protective gear for myself:) I was worried about taking her and letting her run to much (especially on the asphalt, I've herd its really bad for the pads? What could I do to protect her little paws?) And I live in N.Y. on long island, its been really hot but I was wondering how hot is to hot to go for a walk? Run? And long walk (over an hour)? I will post pictures when I can get on a computer >.<
Thank you for the suggestion I've read a few posts about biking and they talked about teaching them the sledding commands im going to give that a try.
She is also very petite |

| stay off the hot pavement and yes its not good for their joints! you need to do all your exercise in the morning or at night, now i am an east coaster so i know all about NY summers as im from PA near philly. dogs can get heat stroke and die in the kind of temps your having right now, does she like to swim? any place to take her to swim that is safe that will keep her cool and wear her out you can get booties for the pads of the feet to keep them protected as well. https://www.dogbooties.com/ love these guys great product and cheap mental games inside with AC will also tire her out. _________________ |

| Hi fellow NY'er! The way this summer has been going, I would wait until October to run her at all. Kind of kidding there, sort of. I wouldn't do too much strenuous exercise, aside from swimming, unless its in the low 70's or below. For running, I wouldn't risk it over 65. My puppy is going to daycare for now, because he's too young for long walks, and its too hot anyway. That really wears him out nicely and is teaching him good social skills to boot. He goes 2-3 days a week. |

| Im not sure if she likes to swim yet I haven't taken her to the beach because there are almost no pet friendly beaches in my area and the few that are its at lest a half a mile treak to the water in the heat :(I am going to go out today and buy a little pool for her to play in so we'll be finding out shortly:D mental games... I have no idea what kind of mental games you can play with a dog I just imagine someone playing tic-tack-toe with their husky, and the husky winning of course! Do you have any suggestions or could you point me to a thread that talks about them?
Woooo! N.Y. represent I don't actually run its more of a light jog.. walk.. but I don't go when the sun is out. Im nervous to do puppy daycare because she isn't trained at all

| Lol! She means training. Or puzzle toys. In terms of training for puppy daycare, its not really necessary. They pretty much just play with other dogs all day, while supervised. Dizzy is really in your face and doesn't get when another dog doesn't want to play. Daycare is helping with this, and I'm hoping will teach him some manners. |

| Ohhhh training = mental games that make sense! Haha my biggest concern is that Ray would be to rough and not listen when told to sit or stay.
This is Ray, when I take her out to potty during the day all she wants to do is sit in the bushes [imagine11.jpg][/img] |
