It was Glassfest this weekend plus the opening day weekend for Eldridge Park that has a dog park.
The Good: There was a free concert at Eldridge Park Sat. night - thought we would take Ami for a romp in the dog park and we could enjoy the concert. Finally, a dog young enough and big enough to really play with the Beastie Boy! A german shephard-pit bull cross. Very cute dog and wonderfully sweet, playful disposition. Which is good 'cause my boy was...indiscreet and mounted him several times
They played, they ran, they jumped..lots of fun. Then there was this smaller medium sized-dog, forget what. but very shy, scared. And persnickety. Ami went up to play and she did a very growly, snappy thing which, I am glad to say, Ami respected with the same attitude the gents in my family did when PMS was the name of the game: Later, Jack, I'm outta here!!
Later, listening to the concert, hubby dragged me up to dance with a slow dance - with Ami on leash! I hate public dancing, especially since there was only 1 other lone man dancing around in front of the crowd. Before I knew what was happening, Ami was standing up on his hind legs, dancing with the lone man and licking his face...and the crowd went wild with applause and laughter
And we even later got complimented on how well-behaved Ami was - asked if he had been to obedience
I was confused, very confused. My dog? My jumping, rambunctious, goofy, all over the place at home dog?
The Bad: My bad. Bad Mommy. Over in Corning, there were fireworks on the river. Too far to take Ami home and go back so we took Ami with us - the plan was, if Ami was freaked, I would take him back to the car (car was only 100 yards away, fortunately.) After waiting interminably for the show to start, and Ami getting antsy-bored, I realized he had not had water in over an hour so headed to car for a drink. On the way there, finally, the fireworks started - and the big boy, appropriate response to bombs going off behind him, wanted to take off...
WTF: I just wanted him to feel safe, so ran with him to car, opened back door and he bolted in...I jumped in the back to keep him company and soothe him, if necessary. Now, we have a sheet over the front seat backs to control hair, and a dog hammock that attaches to the head rests of the front seats and to the child seat latches on the back deck. This blocks the open space between the seats and makes sort of a cubby hole for Mr. Dog. Somehow, he managed to leap over the hammock and into the front driver's seat leaving me in back. It had been raining, dog was wet, no seat protection in the front...husband very picky about his cars. I could not coax Ami to hop back into the back seat, so thought I'd attach his tether to his leash, get out and take him out the front door and put him in the back...
Wrong: I had the child locks engaged so Ami could not accidentally open door. I was stuck in the back. And no way was I going to fit hopping over the seats with Ami in front. I tried knocking on the window to get the attention of the people behind the car, but they just politely moved over so I could see the fireworks better
So there I sat
At the end of the show, husband comes back to the car...opens the driver side door
And there sits Ami, cool as a cucumber. And where is Mommy
Trapped in the back seat!
At least husband had a good laugh. And a wet fanny by the time we were home
