Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect. 2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff. 3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned. 4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule. |

| Hello, I'm Pedro and the little guy on the picture is Fantasma (portuguese for Ghost). Fantasma is a pure white with Heterochromia (one brown and one deep blue), he's completing 2 months in a few days and we're very excited to have him on our home. He's a big dog (his father is pretty big) 11lb. I have a looot of questions that I will be posting soon (he's a big bitter and a towel thief ) PS: I know you might be thinking that Brazil is too hot for a Husky, but we have a lot of huskies here, they seem to be just fine with the heat See ya! PS: Oh! Quick question, how fast puppies usually start responding to their names? Any trick on that? I don't know if he didn't really understood his name yet or if he just likes to ignore me sometimes lol |

| Welcome to the forum!! Your little guy is definitely a cutie!! Be sure to go through all the stickies in each topic, there is a LOT of good info there! At 2 months old, he'd be about 8-9 weeks old, right? If so, he is still really young and is getting acclimated to his environment and being away from mom and litter mates. My trick for teaching names is to use the dogs name for EVERYTHING. Like when my Sheba was a puppy, I would always use her name no matter what I was asking. So for example, I would say "Sheba, sit", "Sheba, come", "Good girl Sheba", "This way, Sheba", "Let's go potty, Sheba" and so on and so forth. Also, whenever she would acknowledge me when I said her name (meaning when she would look in my direction or give me eye contact) I would get really excited and give her lots of praise. I would also randomly call out her name and when she either stopped what she was doing, looked at me, or came to me I would give her a treat. But yes, Siberian's are very prone to selective hearing. They are a breed of dog that will listen when they feel like it benefits them. If they don't want to listen, they won't. Unlike a lot of breeds, Siberian's first instinct and goal in life isn't to please us. Siberian's were bred to be independent thinkers, and that makes training a lot more difficult. We as owners have to constantly think outside of the box to keep a Siberian's attention. It's just how they are . And trust us, we have no problem with Siberian's being in warmer climates . As long as they have the proper means to escape the heat, they can thrive anywhere . Anyway's, welcome to the forum!! We are happy to have you! |
