| I wanted to try and take weekly photos (at least) of Achilles in order to track how he changes color, size, and in markings over his first year. Hopefully this will help people see how facial markings and the red/copper color change over time. According to our breeder, he should lighten up considerably (to a prominent red, but not as dark as he is currently.) We'll see if she was right. Hopefully, I will get both facial markings and a full shot each week. We'll see how that goes. So far, we have pictures from every week except week 7. Achilles was born on 11/21/2013. Colors on update: 2/16/2014-Copper, blue eyes, 12 weeks 2/21/2014-Copper, icy blue eyes, 13 weeks 3/26/2014-Copper w/ noticeably lighter areas, icy blue eyes, 18 weeks 4/23/2014-Copper with many white patches, ice blue eyes, 22 weeks Sorry about the lack of updates. Weight: 1/18/12 (8 weeks) : (somewhere on his papers, will have to check) 1/23/14 (9 weeks) : 12 lbs 2/06/14 (11 weeks) : 17 lbs, 2oz 2/16/14 (12 weeks) : 19.6 lbs 2/21/14 (13 weeks) : 20.6 lbs 3/4/14 (15 weeks) : 23 lbs, 4oz 3/20/14 (17 weeks) : 30.4 lbs 3/27/14(18 weeks) : 33 lbs, 6 oz 4/17/14 (21 weeks) : 42.6 lbs

| Thanks! We love him! I even caught my husband telling our pup that he would pick him again out of all the huskies in the world, so watch out other huskies! He may have a bias from this being his first dog/husky. |

| I've had plenty of different breeds of dogs growing up, my parents seperated when I was young, so 2 different households worth of dogs, we had springer spaniels, fox terriers, jack russels, pitbull terriers, labradors, english setters, german shepherds, dobermans... you get the idea..
Anyway, my point is, I have never loved or felt the love as much as I do with my Huskies, they are truly wonderful family members. |

| Love his pix! I was thinking about naming koda "achilles" i love the movie troy, and i like mythology. The only reason i picked koda was cause i found it one day looking around and fell in love with the meaning. But your pup honestly reminds me of a achilles for some reason idk why lol |

| I'm glad you guys like him! We're pretty fond of him too. Koda is a cool name. I was partial to science-y/medical names, and my husband was trying to keep me grounded on something slightly normal. We went through Wikipedia's list of mythology names and settled on Achilles. |

| Haha, that pup just loves to have his tongue out. So happy!
Layla did have darker spot on her tail around that age. May still have it but I haven't checked in a while. She had a black line that went down her back that tapered off just where her tail started, and then she had a black spot right around where Achilles' is.
You'll be amazed at how their colors can change as they grow. As Achilles' tail gets fluffier the white underneath may start to take over the red on the top. That's what happened with Layla's tail. The little white dipstick on the end of her tail also looks just like Achilles'! Layla has gone from black and white to gray in some areas and dark black in others. She has white markings on the back of her head that have moved and changed shape, too. |

| The picture of him on the blanket made my heart melt. I think the spot is fairly common in huskies  Nova has one as well |

| Liz, I can't wait to see how he turns out! I'm trying to keep track of his mask for that reason; I have seen such a wide variability in husky masks. I am curious to see whether or not white dilutes his colors. Alyne, which one? Is cool to set that so many people have noticed spots on their pups. I didn't know that was a thing in huskies! |

| My dilute red has a fist-sized patch of something between sable-dark gray-taupe at the base of his tail just below his hips. Quite distinctive against his light red/cream colored fur! He was a neglected dog when the shelter took him - had almost no hair so he was kind of patchy when we got him - I'm waiting for his coat to mature - right now he has a ton of undercoat (outdoor dog in upstate NY winter) - it's thick like a sheep. But, along his topline, from neck, to tail, there seems to be very little guard hair - and the individual hairs look to be darker red, almost sable but there is so much undercoat that he looks creamy on his back. So, I'm waiting to see what he will look like - do like his little patch, though did think it was unique... |

| Kenzi has a similar spot on her tail. You can kinda see it in this picture. It's much darker when she stands. Maybe it's a red thing? _________________ |

| It's so cool seeing so many people with husky tail spots! Today we tried the dreaded task of giving Achilles his first bath. Surprisingly, it worked. Someone on here recommended doing a stepwise process of getting them in the bathroom->tub->having water running->getting dog wet->shampooing->rinsing, and it worked! Admittedly, the water was a bit cold at first because I didn't want to turn the bath to warm (thus, increasing the volume/speed of the water) and it made him nervous, but it all worked out in the end. I have to say, our guy is a sucker for treats. I honestly don't think I'd have it any other way, though. Here's the success picture: |

| Achilles is 13 weeks old as of yesterday, woo! Here's this week's pictures: Face: Body/Size: Bonus: Pretty sure he's part bat, at this point. Achilles also enjoys studying, and absorbing the material (in this case, post-its) |

| OMG, I think you're right that he is part bat, haha. Those ears are huge! His paws look pretty big, too, so he'll definitely grow into both ears and paws eventually. Layla's six months old and still growing into her ears, haha. |

Lycus has that same dark spot too! It's the only spot he had as a pup and the rest of him used to be completely white. Lol, that's not the case any more, and his spot is black. |

| I think it's actually called a precaudle gland (a scent gland). I think most dogs have it but it's not really functioning anymore. Cat's have it as well, but it actually functions for them. It can be a different color, and some dogs have it the same color so people don't notice. |
