Very nice, haven't gotten to watch them all yet, but I plan to! Lani I noticed that you mentioned the West Yellowstone race in one of your other threads. I'm curious if you have ever done or are considering the Casper Mountain event as well? Its not truly a competitive races, more of a family type event and I understand most serious racers don't go to it, but it is my understanding that last year it brought in a very large number of participants. So I was just just curious.

I did not do Casper Mountain- The original dates would have worked with my schedule but they ended up having to postpone due to conditions. The reschedule dates conflicted with Diamond Lake which is more local to us. We're hoping to make it this next season! It's for such a good cause it's worth the drive

Ugh tell me about it, I was going to run mine tonight as it said it was going to be warm but raining... now it's decided it'll just be 22 degrees (C) all night.

Has me wishing for snow! Reminds me I need to take my ski's in and have the gouges P-texed, hit some gravel once or twice when the snow was sparse. Cooler weather does have us out with the bike more, Maya is still in good condition for having most of the summer off.

Hi Lani! Wasn't sure if you went to the Rodeo run or not. You were not in the list of finishers, sorry, guess the runs were not the best they could be. Appears that the dogs were more "on game" the second day as opposed to the first. Some quick teams too, using hounds?

Yes we did the Rodeo Run, in the 4 dog class and we did finish 4th in the the class of 5. 1st in the Purebred division. http://www.sleddogcentral.com/results14/lower48/west/west_yellowstone_mt_rodeo_run.htm Day 2 was a more on day for the most part, it's hard running in a nearly 7,000ft elevation gain even for them. Eurohounds have been the 'it' dog for years, personally I can't stand the mentality or the oily stink of them…but if you want to win that's the dog to have.

The list of finishers must not have been complete when I read the results, glad you did well. I do have fun looking at the results and "knowing" one of the competitors!

Training run Granite Creek 1/22/2014- 13.5 miles, top speed of 20mph, sustained run 7.3mph- for lacking training opportunities this year I'm very pleased!

Fernan Training run 12 miles- new trails, perfect weather, and plenty of training opportunities! We ran the first 6 miles for speed, and the trip back in we worked on passing and gee over training. It's equally important to exercise the body and the mind!

Very nice. Some of the edges look a little high up and the trail a little narrow, good thing to still be below tree line huh? After they have been well watered, how long do you let the kids run before watering them again?

My runs are usually around an hour, I let them rest a moment and have a cookie then drop 'baited' rehydrating mix water.

We have had such an awful winter and training season we decided to throw in the towel and headed to West Yellowstone for a week of running dogs in the most perfect conditions possible! What a week, 7 teams, great friends, what more could one ask for!
