Recently we noticed our 11 mo. old boy losing hair on the tips of both his ears. (picture below). Any ideas as to what could be causing this, and solutions? We will bring him to the vet if necessary, we just didn't know if this had an easy fix. Smile

I've thought about it being the result of an allergy, though I don't know what he would be reacting to. He eats blue buffalo dog food and he's eaten the same flavor since we've gotten him. I also haven't noticed him scratching his ears any more frequently than normal.

Wish I could help you. If you're at all concerned, I would just take him to the vet. It could be nothing and I hope that's the case, or it could be a fungal or bacterial infection or even a type of mange.

Symmetrical hair loss is a concern due to the fact it's highly unusual for allergies, mites, or fungal sources to present symmetrically. More common causes of symmetrical hair loss is hormonally related, I'd personally take him to the vet to have a blood test run. Cushings, which is more common than is thought in our breed, would be a main concern.
