| Subject: Lack of "Fluffiness"? Sun Apr 13, 2014 12:58 pm | |
| All, Once again I'm writing with what could be a potentially simple question for you: Achilles is now five months old and looks much "sleeker" than a number of the huskies on here. Is it due to him being more of a working versus show husky? Is it unrelated, perhaps due to his puppy coat still being in place? Or is it something else? I'm not really concerned about it, I just find it interesting to see how different he is from many other huskies. Believe me, I'm not complaining; less fluff=less fur (potentially) around the house. Thanks for humoring me, once again. Here's pictures of Achilles as of today (we played at the dog park in our backyard. ) and one from several days ago. |

| I think that a husky's 'fluffiness' for the most part is genetics and location. But mostly genetics. I think he looks pretty normal for a five month old. His puppy coat is definitely in, and when the weather starts getting colder, and he starts getting older, he will grow his thick undercoat.
Lycus was really scrawny and 'naked' looking too at 5 months old. Now, he's still not super fluffy, especially compared to other huskies as well, but it's a big difference than what he looked like at 5 months old.
I completely agree with you about the 'not complaining' part lol. I don't have as much fur around the house as I've seen other fluffier husky owners do. |

| I second what Rocio said. Even some puppies from the same litter will have differing coat textures. Mishka's coat is a good bit more plush than his sister's coat. I'm not sure geological region makes a big difference because in our H2M2 group we have dogs with sleek coats all the way to wooly coats. It just depends on the dogs background and genetics. _________________ |

| Its a combination of lineage and diet I think. puppies from the same litter can have different coats so that probably stems from slight variations in the way the dogs genes are expressed. Anya looked very much like your pup when she was little. She had a smooth, shiny and short coat but her litter mates are a bit fluffier and not as shiny. she is raw fed and they are not so that can have something to do that...
Either way, it's nothing to be concerned about! Your pup may change considerably once the adult coat comes in |

| Yeah my pup was always kind of extra fluffy from the time we got him and he has stayed that way. His coat looks a little shorter now because he is bigger. I think that just some pups are extra fluffy and some are kind of sleek. |

| Funny enough, I had someone ask me a few months ago if Axel was a 'short haired' ?? husky because he was not super fluffy. As it's getting colder here and as he's getting bigger, he seems to be getting fluffier though! |

| Coat type comes from genetics. Not so much 'working' or 'showing' but the actual genetics behind the dogs that were bred. |
