| So yesterday afternoon I came home from work sick which Orion was pretty chuffed about. I was resting on the couch and he was snoozing at my feet then a few hours after I came home he suddenly went outside and threw up. I thought it was pretty odd, I took a look through the vomit and it was all his breakfast nothing suspicious so I figured maybe he didn't eat it when I gave it to him this morning maybe he gorged it late. Then 20 or so minutes after that he starting munching grass and forcing up bile, he was doing this non stop so after 10 minutes I got on the phone to the vet. She said to just starve him then feed him bland diet for a few days and he should be fine but being the overbearing owner that I am I put him in the car and took him to the vet anyway. Long story short he had a temp, pain in his abdomen, bloods came back clear but the x-ray was suspicious - there was a lot of gas in his gut but because it was slightly distended they couldn't identify a blockage. They gave him some antibiotics, some pain meds and an anti nausea shot and told me to keep an eye on him and if he vomited overnight after being given the anti nauseous stuff it was pretty certain he had a blockage and they would operate first thing in the morning. It has been a very rough night, I've stayed up with him and I am kinda a mess right now. He has been pacing and crying all night, he hasn't slept for longer than 20 minutes at a time - luckily no vomit but he seems to be in a lot of pain so I am really worried. I've got half an hour to wait until the vets opens

| Lycus has gotten like this twice already as well and each time, it still freaked me out. They also gave me antibiotics and some other pills to stop his vomiting. Thankfully, they did end up helping out. I was freaking out that it might have been a serious obstruction. The first time they did x rays but nothing came out but they still looked a bit weird. I just ended up giving him the medication and fed him rice for about 2 days and he was pretty much back to normal by the 3rd.
Hopefully Orion gets better soon! It's always sad to see a sick pup. |

| I hope he's ok!!! Obstructions are really scary! If i recall correctly, I think our vet suggested an ultrasound when the x-ray didn't show much. We went through this with our shih tzu |

| I've spoken to the vet and not vomiting is positive but the fact he seems to be in pain is a worry. I have given him some rice and poached chicken in some broth as a soupy type thing for breakfast (He's not drinking hence the broth) and now I'm just praying he keeps it down. If he vomits it up within an hour he'll be going straight to surgery :(He has been pacing round the yard attempting to poop so I am desperately hoping whatever is in there has moved down his intestinal tract and will continue on out. His abdomen is so hard though and he flinches quite badly when I try and feel his belly. I'm kind of tempted to give him some milk since dairy gives him the runs, maybe it will get whatever it is out or at least relieve some of the pressure in there!
I know I'm probably freaking out more than I should but I lost my last dog to abdominal complications at 4 years old it was so heartbreaking, I couldn't bear it if something happened to my boy and his continual crying is tearing me up. |

| First off, you are not freaking out. You love your pup and something is making him uncomfortable. We all feel this way because they are precious to us and they cannot speak to us. Hoping everything is doing good at this time for you and Orion.
Just went through this with my pup. He was throwing up blood and part of a bully bone. His x-ray was the same as Orions. We gave him antibiotics and he did not throw up again. Then the next week his anus was inflamed. They gave us medicine for that and then everything went back to normal.
The vet will help you through the medical stuff and we will help you through the emotional stuff.
Please keep us updated. This, I am sure is weighing heavy on all our minds.
Paw prayers to you.

| It has been a long day! Took Orion back to the vet this afternoon and she was still concerned that the original symptoms of yesterday hadn't reduced other than the vomiting so they took more x-rays. The abnormality they saw yesterday is still there but it slightly further through his intestinal tract. They are not sure if it is a definite blockage or a large pocket of gas caused by a slight blockage or something he has eaten has either disagreed with him or scratched the inside of his tummy to produce all the gas. The fact that he is holding food down is a good sign but he is still yet to poop and he is still quite sore. They offered to open him up this afternoon to get it over and done with and so we would know for sure and I decided against it at this stage. Since it can't be done keyhole I felt like it was a lot to put him through for a maybe - especially considering the recovery time and his physical needs. They have given him pain meds, antibiotics, antacids and anti nausea medication and they gave him some little capsule thingys that are non dissolvable and highly identifiable on x-ray. If they do not pass in 24 hours or he deteriorates at all then all it will take is a quick x-ray to see exactly where the capsules are lodged then they operate on that exact site rather than have to go looking for a blockage like they would if they had gone in today. I'm feeding him 4 small meals a day of chicken and rice just to keep it easy on his tummy and we are going for gentle 10 minute walks every few hours in the hope of getting things moving. At the moment he seems more comfortable and has perked up a wee bit since his last meal (I'm choosing to believe it is positive rather than just the meds he got with that meal lol) he seems happier to let me feel his abdomen which I am taking to mean it's not quite so sore, I have been giving him the chicken poaching liquid to drink to entice him so his gums are no longer showing signs of dehydration and thankfully he is not crying as much so I am keeping my fingers crossed that these are all good signs! I'm also hoping he gets some sleep tonight - last night the poor boy just went through a 20 minute cycle all night, lie down, get up pace round the house, want out, pace round the yard, come back in, lie down, cry, repeat. I followed him round with a torch all night making sure he was never sick or trying to eat grass - I'm pretty sure he is over me hovering around him lol but there is no way I am giving him space from me at the mo. All and all he is still not in a fantastic shape for him but I am feeling better about the situation than I did this morning. I really hope whatever is bugging him will resolve without surgery but if that's what it takes then so be it, I'll deal with that if it happens. I never thought I would see the day where I wish he would be a total pain in the a** and get into trouble but today is certainly that day! I just want him back to himself, it feels very wrong to have a quiet dog. Thank you all for letting me vent here by they way I really appreciate the support and to read others have had their pups go through the same and be ok has really improved my day! |

| Unfortunately no poop he has also decided to not eat this morning and I've had to trail him closely since he is attempting to eat grass again |

| Well turns out I wasn't freaking for nothing! Damn dog ate a sock I took him for a walk not long ago and he would walk a few meters then try poop, this happened about 4 times then finally he managed it and there was a sock in it! No wonder he felt terrible! It was a babies sock so it must have blown over the fence from the neighbors and he obviously found it before it did. I am so relieved! I have never been so excited about poop in my life |

| What a relief! Gus swallowed an entire men's size winter glove a couple months ago at the park. A couple tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide and he threw it right up! That would've required surgery for sure. So if you ever see him do it again, it might be a good idea to keep some handy. That only works if it's within the first hour or so. Glad he is back to his silly husky self |

| Thanks guys I am very pleased to have him back to normal... even if he is trying to cram 4 days of low energy into one now lol I have some hydrogen peroxide for situ's like this but unfortunately I had no idea he had eaten it it has come in handy for other things though! Like stealing a whole tray of choc chip cookies I could speak to my neighbors but to be fair we have had gale force winds lately that have brought trees down so I can hardly get mad about a wayward sock. Main thing is he's ok |
