This is what I was feeding Okami for awhile, just this. And He had solid poo. Now I'm trying to mix this in to get him off the Prescription ID. I am at the point of giving him 50/50 of the old/new food. And he has really soft poo. I want to get him off the pricier food, ID, and move him to the Advanced Fitness. Now I understand it is not puppy formulated food. I tried a puppy food by Hills but he got really soft poo right away. What should I do? Do I just wait for him to get use to the 50/50 mixture? He isn't lethargic or underweight.

Science Diet is an absolutely terrible food for any dog to be on IMO. Too many sub-par ingredients and way too much corn. I'd suggest a grain free, more holistic diet. Blue Buffalo, Taste Of The Wild, Wellness, etc.

Totally agree, and if he's soft now, I would do a bland diet of chicken and rice for a couple days and then start mixing in the holistic food. A lot of huskies (and humans too) have trouble with corn. I've never had one that can handle corn. Check out dogfoodadvisor.com, they have a lot of helpful ratings and info. How much per bag is the 'cheaper food?' Taste of the Wild isn't too pricey and definitely better to spend a few more dollars per bag then to have to keep buying different kinds to try out.

Hmm, ok. Okami use to be on this Blue Buffalo when I first got him but he would pretty much squirt that out. So I went to the vet and they suggested he be on Hills G/I. Which helped solidify his poo. Could the Blue Buffalo had had to much protein or too rich? Is there another Blue Buffalo I should try? One of these Blue Buffalo dry foods?

When you switched did you just switch or did you transition over at least 2 weeks? It could have been too rich, you could try the lamb formula which is lower in protein/fat than the chicken is.

Blue Buffalo Freedom works for my boy. He use to be a runny poo-er too.

I tried transitioning him. He couldn't get past 75/25 mixture of old/new. I don't remember what the old was, it was just some cheap kibble.

My pup had a lot of trouble with very high protein foods as a puppy. I found he did best on something between 22-25%. Still decent, but not as high as some. I think taste of the wild sierra mountain was in that range and that was one I remember working for him.

It could have been too rich, certainly. Though it could have also been too much. 1 cup of a lesser quality food is a lot less in Kcal than 1 cup of a high quality food. Over feeding is often linked to diarrhea in puppies. There are a number of options in a higher quality product that will offer the best possible nutrition for your pup.

Haha! Ok, so Science Diet is bad seems to be the consensus. I just want something that will help him grow into a big boy. Cost really isn't the problem, I just want him off the prescription.
