So Dizzy is suddenly afraid of the microwave. If I turn it on he leaves the room, if I try to get him to stay and give him treats he gets really anxious and won't eat the treats. He went through a lot of fear phases as a young pup but hasn't had a new one in a while. Lately he just seems more anxious generally. Yesterday he was whining in the car, normally he is very good and relaxed.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this around this age? I just want to know if he's going to outgrow this or if I need to do something other than his normal training stuff?

Can you try a different microwave? Like borrow a friends? I only ask because I know dogs "feel" the world differently than we do and maybe your microwave is doing something different sound or smell wise and although still working freaking him out a bit.

Just a thought.

I read in one of my books that one of the fear phases lasts from like...6months (or something) up to two years.

(look at me almost being somewhat active on the forum! Lol)

Sometimes they're shorter! It just has the potential to last to that point lol.

I am thankful that Mechta is done with hers. I'm over trying to build her confidence in everything. She is a damn project dog.

I think it will depend on the dog as to whether they will grow out of some things. Kenzi is around 4 now and she has little spurts where something will freak her out one day and a while later she's okay again. She cries in the car when we go to lowes. She didn't used to cry in the car when we go to lowes. Nothing has happened to her at lowes. Last summer she was afraid to go out in storms. Now she isn't. I don't know if it's because she has grown out of some things or if we have unknowingly caused or cured some things, but I know she's just goofy from time to time.

Freaks. All of them. Wink

This combined with his refusal to eat has really been getting me down lately.

I live on a country road with little traffic.
When Bodhi and I walk at night, it's pitch black.

A couple of nights ago, we were walking and Bodhi suddenly shot sideways.
His ears were back and we circled around behind me like he was terrified.

Someone had thrown out an office chair along side of the road.
I couldn't get him to approach and sniff to see that it was benign.
Silly boy!

Well I can kinda understand the chair thing if it surprised him and it was dark. So it's definitely a sound thing because the microwave is on top of the fridge and he also leaves when the fridge goes on to.
