| This week a fellow husky owner, who knows I have been looking to add another to my home, asked me to please take his 1 year old female husky. She has great temperament, good with even small animals. I would be more than happy to bring her home with us. So I let him know it was very important he gives me all her vet information, shot records.... I am not the most trusting of situations like this so I was wondering if I should write up a document before meeting with him this Saturday. One that all of us can sign stating that he handed his dog over to us to adopt. Has anyone ever done something like this before? In the past I have lived in awful neighborhoods where people would dump their dogs on me but none of these dogs had any record of living with anyone! No shots, no tags.. They mite as well have been strays. This one came from a breeder so I am sure he has SOMETHING. I would really appreciate all of your advice. |

| Absolutely I would get something in writing that he is handing the dog over to your care, and likewise it could also state that you acknowledge you're taking responsibility to care for the dog. I would also try to get as much info on the dog as you possibly can. Hopefully they kept their vet records and records from the breeder, though if the dog came from a BYB there may be no records from before the dog was eight weeks old. At the very least this guy should tell you who her vet is so you can get the records from them. This is where a contract of sorts could come in handy, as it would be a record for you to show them that you have taken ownership of the dog.
Good luck with the new addition to the family! |

| You guys are fantastic! Yes I have been interviewing him far more than he has been interviewing me .... The dogbonerescue.com template was VERY helpful thank you so much Jbealer. I do wish I had more time but I am afraid if we do not do all of this Saturday, he will just take the dog to a shelter. People can be so frustrating! I will never understand abandoning a vulnerable creature that you raised yourself. I will keep everyone updated on what happens through this next week! I am sure it will be a tough one. |

| Did he tell you why he had to give up the dog?
I don't understand how some people give their dogs up so easily.... Especially the people who get dogs, end up getting bored of them, not liking them, etc, and then just take them to a shelter... That kind of stuff infuriates me to no end. |

| If possible/affordable, I would recommend that you look into pet insurance for this dog. Since you do not know where he came from in the long run it might be beneficial to invest in that just in case some problems arrive.
Good luck, and I hope everything goes well. I've never understood giving up animals either. You are very smart to have everything in writing so no one can go back on their word! |

| Oh boy what a sad day, We met up at 10 He had all her paperwork, he contacted his vet giving us our name and informing him that we will request all her medical information. He even had her crate and toys. The second she seen our happy goof his dog started distress screaming. She was in flight mode then snapping to fight. We waited for a half an hour, I was wondering if maybe his dog was just visually intimidated without smelling our dog so I spun Sif and held her butt first, let his dog sniff her but she sniffed her then started the flight and screaming again! We put Sif in our car and I asked what his dogs commands where ... she was very well obedience trained but intimidated by large females. Our dog playbowed to her three times and usually ours is the selective friends one! I begged him not to bring his dog to a shelter.... despite wanting to give his dog up due to having to make a big move overseas I could tell he really does love his dog and she was raised well. I gave him a list of rescue organizations that re-home northern breeds and told him she may do best in an active home as an only dog or with smaller male dogs. He told me she is cat friendly, child friendly and goes to the dog park. I was thinking maybe her owner was depressed over the situation and it was giving the dog anxieties ? It really was a shame though, she had AKC papers and was from a breeder out in the states, it showed externally, her posture, coat , eyes, and markings were gorgeous..... If anything maybe this will be an eye opener for him and he will try and accommodate her into his lifestyle, he raised her since 8 weeks :C ....Anyhow, thank you all again for your quick help! I got some pretty spiffy contracts I typed up in the event someone else falls from the sky and dumps a husky on us ! lol!!! (sorry this looks like i typed it with my butt, We were so excited preparing for a new dog we did not get much sleep here) |

| I'm sorry it didn't work out! I almost wonder if you hadn't been in her home with another animal if it would have worked out differently. Sometimes a neutral ground makes all the difference. I hope it works out for that husky some where! |

| Oh no we certainly met at a neutral ground. He initially wanted to bring her to our house and I was like OH NOOOO ...We have a petsmart close to home that is oddly massive.... has a very large parking lot and a puppy training area. People are welcome to walk into when there are no classes ...so I requested we meet there with our dogs and meet outside first since it is one of sifs happy places (All the workers spoil her there so when I tell her we are going to petsmart she is always ready to be a social butterfly.) I had him meet us out in the parking lot so smells of food and treats would not in some way trigger any fight type of behavior .... We both left with a good attitude, joked the whole way. But nopeee, she was not havin it, she was like NO WAY AM I LIVING IN JERSEY!
We do certainly want another dog. I may be a nut for this since Sif is still an adolescent but I have been entertaining the idea of bringing in another pup from Sif's breeder. Despite our dog being young ...at home her temperament is SO calm! I have to wake her up to play.... and use the bathroom lol shes just so easy going and respectful of this home that I am not scared of puppy chaos. So I suppose next decision is if we will be bringing home a Husky or a Mal. |

| I asked him, but it is a road trip...the breeder is out in the states .... it would be about a 23 hour drive from where he is living he has a large truck awful on gass, I have a tiny toyota that is great on gass and it was a few hundred round trip ....I recently did that drive with my dog for a convention, and I felt it! lol ....I do wish him the best though.... I would sell some of my organs before giving up my pup! |

| Aw, that's too bad that it didn't work out. If it weren't for the fact that the dogs didn't get along, I'm sure you would have been a great home for her! I don't understand why someone would give up their dog, even if they're moving to another country. I know someone who moved from the U.S. to the U.K. and took his dog with him ... |
