| I live in a condo and I have my new 9 week old puppy. I am trying to crate train him to prevent him from chewing everything but he just whines and howls! I feed him in his crate, he sometimes will sleep in it overnight with the door open but he won't stay during the day. I leave for work at 4:45am so the neighbors are not liking the howling noise at that hour! He is only alone until 8:30am but he is not understanding.
Any tips or how long will it take before he can be crate trained? Until then, i have found a kennel place to keep him overnight because my neighbors have had enough. |

| It will take several weeks, maybe a month or two to stabilize and get better.
He's still a baby and adjusting to his new life with you. It is extra tough with neighbors so close. Have you spoken with them and introduced them to the puppy and explained the situation.
One way or the other, they'll just have to deal with it because there is no quick fix, unfortunately. |

| We used treat and food dispensing toys to keep Charlie entertained. He still howls a bit in the mornings but has done much better staying calm throughout the day. We've got 3-4 toys of varying difficulty with greater value treats in the harder ones... some are set up to be impossible. |

| Chuck slept in his crate with the door closed and he howled on occasion the first couple days and then stopped. During the day I fenced off and dog proofed a room with hard floors (I still do this actually). When he was still around Marley's age I would crate him for short but increasing periods while I was at home, put fun things and treats in there, and eventually he came around.
I know you're waking up super early but is Marley getting exercise in the morning? Helps big time, even a little will help, but the more the better.

| Well, something that worked for me was leaving the TV on or some Calming music. it seemed to help him,. Yes, he did still cry for a while, about 10 minutes then started calming down. (he does no sleep in it anymore though) but i think that would be worth a try. whatever you do, don't let him out when he cry's that teaches them that they can get out (which is what they want) when ever they cry, this being the first husky I have owned i made that mistake which is why he no longer sleeps in the crate. and don't talk to them, that gives them attention and they will want more and continue to howl. also a good thing to do is put an old shirt or blanket (that's no good because they will probably shred it) so they have something with their owners scent on it.
Hope this helps, :3 |
