| Subject: Introducing new puppy to almost 2 year old Husky Mon Mar 24, 2014 7:09 pm | |
| We got a new husky (a mixed breed--husky/golden) yesterday. She is only 10 weeks old and is a sweet little thing (and still nameless!). Meika, our husky girl that's almost 2, is infatuated with her. She is constantly on top of her and will not leave her alone and the only peace the puppy gets is when she is in her crate. I'm wanting to know if the behavior Meika has is normal and if I should deter her at all. Right now she is constantly biting at the new puppy. She puts her entire head, back, legs, basically whatever she can get a hold of, into her mouth. If the puppy runs at all she will pull at her fur which causes her to yelp. The puppy has started to get a bit frustrated and will growl and bark at her which just excites Meika more. Should I try to stop Meika from biting at her? Or is this just normal behavior which will eventually stop? I will say that Meika seems friendly as she is always wagging her tail. The worst part for me is that the puppy is always soaked from Meika's mouth! Otherwise it doesn't seem to hurt her usually, just annoys her at times. She's not free to roam at all so I feel bad for her that Meika is on her at all times when she's not crated and even when she's crated Meika will lie right in front of the crate door and stare at her. On a good note, at least Meika is leaving the cat alone now. |
