Hi!
I know what you all are thinking based on the headline.. that he's too young. But I'm starting to get really confused by the information I'm getting from every direction and don't know how to properly adjust it to our situation.
Here in Sweden, most people who own huskies are professional mushers who can't think of the husky being anything other than a sleddog and colleague that lives for their business - and all of them are like: a 5 month old husky pup is already in training to join the sled team (so that they can race next winter). My thought is that these people don't really care if the huskies live past their 10th birthday, because they need young and energetic dogs for their teams - and therefore don't care if the dog gets joint problems as a senior. After asking some international husky people on facebook, I know that it should be better for me to wait with the heavy stuff until he is 12 months, at least.
Now, the thing is - I'm really out of shape! I haven't exercised since before we got Chili, bc he needed to go out 8-12 times a day so there wasn't really time. Sure, just standing out in the rain waiting for a puppy to do his business, and quick turns around the block made me lose 4 kg - but it's still not exercise! So I'm thinking if I start jogging now I'll NOT be able to run very far, nor fast. Perhaps I'd be jogging slowly for 10 minutes, walking 10 for perhaps 30-40 minutes a time -- 2-3 times a week. He is now 5 1/2 months, and I thought I could start when he is 6 months.
Do you think that would be ok?

I would say if you do it on somewhat soft ground, and aren't too rigid in your times you'd probably be fine doing 30 minutes. Or maybe better yet 20 mins a couple times a day. Just watch him closely and if he seems to be slowing down then take a walking break. I think the problems come when people think the are going to run exactly 10 minutes, so they just force the dog to go that long, even if it's not good for them or run them on concrete. Maybe start with 3-5 min of jogging alternating with walking. Once your pup realizes you're going faster than a walk, he'll probably be off like a cannon, so make sure you don't let him run himself into the ground. Also watch him for any signs of tenderness or pain the day or two after your runs.

Honestly your jog, probably wont even make your pup leave his walking pace, (not saying your slow) but they have a pretty fast walking pace, My pup started do some running with me and im in decent shape, and she basically just walks fast and occasionally trots lol... just make sure as said try to keep it to softer ground and watch your pup, because they wont stop them selves they will keep going just to stay with ya

Lol, yeah that's kinda what I was thinking though.. I'm pretty sure he'll just be walking quickly for most of the time.. but I'll start slowly in two weeks and make sure to keep an eye for any sign of tiredness.. and not let him run to the ground Smile once he notices that I'm running and not walking. He loves joggers and usually starts running "with them" just by seeing them pass us... lol, but I'll make sure that he takes it slowly Smile
