Here's a documentary. It was... frustrating to watch, to say the least. Thought?

Watching what I can on my phone at work. Interesting so far. Kind of crazy to see people feeding their dogs vegan diets and fried chicken and French fries though.

I completely agree with the video in that aspects of the commercial diet. You see brands like Purina and Pedigree supporting all the big dog shows and having commercials plastered all over TV with these happy dogs taking walks through fields, obviously healthy because their owner feeds them Beneful.

However, I absolutely could not stand to see those dogs eating vegetarian diets and chicken nuggets.. how is that any better than a commercial brand diet? Dogs are by nature carnivores and to subject them to your view to be vegan/vegetarian seems a bit extreme. And the chicken nuggets/pizza rolls.. well I just cringed while the dogs ate those.

I was really happy to see the raw diet got some video time though. I personally feed my dogs partial-raw and plan on switching them to full raw as soon as I have a larger place with a chest freezer. What she said was true too, I switched Cloud to full raw for 2 and a half weeks when I stayed at my boyfriends place and he looked so much better after the first week, and his poops were really tiny xD

I only got 17 minutes in where they got to the raw diet as I have to get ready for work, but for the majority I liked the video.

There was too much finger pointing and opinions for my taste. There weren't actually any scientific information or references, just people saying stuff, particularly with the vegan/vegetarian diets. I don't know if you noticed, but as soon as they started talking about raw the music got dark and mystic, like they were subliminally trying to put you off of it or something. I couldn't take it seriously.

The parts that stood out to me the most were when they briefly brought up "..the domestication of the wolf.." and they said something about how dogs and wolves have identical digestive systems. I was very disappointed in it.

I have to agree with you Caitlin. There was little to no scientific facts and information for me to take it too seriously. It was basically nothing but a bunch of opinions flying around but no real statistics and what not.

It's really hard not to get pissed off watching this. There are no scientific facts and most of the people who talked really brought nothing substantial to the table or evidence to support their stance. This is just 45 mins of people's opinions on why their food choice is better then the others and then everyone at the end saying "but to each their own lol"

I didn't watch it, but have to say that most of the dogs show folks i've met do actually feed pro plan or eukanuba or one of the more major brands. Not a lot of folks feed holistic foods (totw etc.) or raw. I have come across one or two show breeders that feed raw. I realize I have rather limited experience in the show world, but that is my impression overall. My personal opinion is that as long as basic nutrition needs are met, than the lifespan of a dog is more dependent on genetics and overall care than brand of food. My old girl Tasha died at 16 because she got a dental abscess and it was too risky to put her under for surgery she ate nutro lamb and rice her whole life. Of course some are better than others, but why is purina pro plan the devil?

I don't dislike a brand just because its a brand, I dislike it because of what ingredients it holds and that I don't believe it holds proper nutritional value for a dog. Yes dogs can live on it.. but they don't thrive on it. Just my take on it anyway.

I have a dog on prescription diet and I would agree it is frustrating the vet community does not offer many other options. I know my dog is thriving now but I know the food is not good either. At the same time I am nervous about switching his food. I am not sure about the vet just making money as the food was not recommended till he got sick and the vet has always been fine with my choices.

That is my experience with the labrador (my other breed) show (and field) breeders too. These are well respected, long timers with many, many, many generations behind their lines, so I'm pretty sure they know what their dogs do best on by now. It's interesting to see that many husky show folks do the same. I've always been afraid to ask. lol

Am I the only one cracking up over the fact the guy in this took a bag of his dogs shit on a plane trip with him??!! I couldn't believe my ears when I realized what he was saying - to me when he said "there was a poo bag in it" I thought he meant a bag, as in just the bag not a bag full of poo!

In all seriousness this neither swayed nor reaffirmed my current opinions on the diet of my dog it really just let me know the opinions of others on what they personally feed.

I was cracking up about that one. I usually keep track of where I put my dogs poo and make sure it is thrown away. Then again, I have a 65, 70, and 100lb dog. Little hard to miss that I think even if they were on raw.
