| Osiris' primary care doctor never has mentioned that he was underweight. She has now gone on maternity leave and a fill in doctor took him in for his bi-annually comprehensive exam. She mentioned that he was underweight. I have now spent $500 on GI panel rule-out labs to determine if there is anything wrong with him. (Results come in tomorrow!) He usually has soft stools, and used to have mucus along with them. He was put on antibiotics and tested for worms and parasite, all negative. Since then, I have switched his food to TOTW, and I not seen any mucus since. My problem now is that his stools are never really firm. I feed him twice a day, at least 1 cup each time (minimum two cups/day). I have tried Fortiflora probiotics, metamucil (1tsp/day) which didn't really help. So now I'm trying to add 2-3 Tbsp of pure pumpkin to his food, but it's only been about 3-4 feedings. I can't decide if i'm just overfeeding him and he has a terribly fast metabolism, or he has other GI issues which I will hopefully have some answers soon. I've posted some pictures below to get some opinions from you guys. Do you think he's skinny? He is a 4 year old MALE, 44.5 pounds. (I know "breed standard" is 45-60). Any feedback is appreciated!
P.S. In his fully developed life, he has never been more than 46 pounds, and has never dropped to less than 40. Mainly stays between 44.2-44.8

| He does look a tad thin the top down photos, but not so much that I would be concerned if he's eating well. He looks perfect in the side shots. Does he eat all of his food with interest? Have you tried increasing his food intake to put some extra weight on him? He does look like he could stand to gain a few pounds. For a 1-3 yr old I would consider that normal, but they typically fill out by 3-4 yrs. In any event, I wouldn't say he's underweight necessarily, just a little on the thin side. Again, I don't see anything worrying about his weight.
If he never has firm stool then I would keep trying new things until you find one he does well on. Bear in mind I would try new things slowly so as not to make matters worse or upset his stomach. The last thing you want to do is throw a bunch of new things his way all in a short time period without giving his body a chance to adjust.
The pumpkin should only be a temporary thing. It's a band-aid, if you will, not a solution to a problem. If you're using it to get him back on track, fine. But if you're using it as a sort of "solution" for the soft stool, then you need to change tactics. _________________ |

| Looks perfectly normal to me. Nicky has almost the exact same figure. My family thinks she is too thin, but I'm happy with her size. She's just a very active dog. I wouldn't worry about it too much, just stick with your regular vet when she comes back from leave. I second the pumpkin, for the soft stool. I heard something about sweet potato too, but I'm not 100%, I'll have to double check on it.-checked, 2-4 tablespoons boiled sweet potato if pumpkin is not available. |

| I think he looks just a little skinny in some of his top views, but not unhealthy just skinny. I dont think trying to pack on a few lbs would be a bad thing though. |

| I would try to feed him what ever the TOTW says for a 50-60lb dog, for the stool is sounds like he might be intolerant to something in the food I would try a grain free fish or lamb those seem to help most of the time. your going to want to find the cause of the stools and fix it |

| Looks few pounds underweight to me. I would not do too much at once. How long has he been on TOTW? It took a week or two for both puppies in our family to show stool improvement on TOTW. Then I know when my shepherd mix was your dogs size it took her a number of months to gain 5lbs. I feed Loki who is 70lbs 2.5 to 3 cups per day. Hope vet results come back with no issues. |
