We have two dogs, our doberman just turned a year old and our husky puppy is 3 months.  At first our dobie was very gentle when playing with the puppy.  Now she seems very rough and loves to knock him down and grab his neck.  He enjoys playing with her but will often come lay at my feet when she is being too persistant.  He has been looking depressed lately and I am wondering if the dobie is hurting him.  They both bite and pull on each other, however the doberman is more than twice the size of the puppy.  My husband thinks they are just playing but I am worried.  Has anyone had a new puppy in the home with an older dog and experienced this?

Sounds pretty normal and like they are playing and communicating well. The older Doberman should respond to the pup's limits. If the younger Husky is playing back and contributing to the mouthyness and the roughness than you shouldn't have much to worry about. Just watch for prolonged pinning by the older Doberman.

What do you mean looking depressed? Can you elaborate? How is it related to when they are playing?

Thank you for your input. The last few days he seemed to have a lack of energy and enthusiasm. Not really wanting to play, kind of laying around. However when I got home last night (after I had posted this) he seemed to be back to the excited, tail wagging, mischief seeking puppy I love.

Sounds like he could have just been tired? Pups that young sleep a lot and will get exhausted by big energy expenditures for a day or so.  

It would have to be a dramatic, extreme scenario for a pup that young to actually be in a state of depression.

Glad to hear he was back to normal.
