Feeding puppy raw has bones and blood in stool Empty
PostSubject: Feeding puppy raw has bones and blood in stool   Feeding puppy raw has bones and blood in stool EmptySun Apr 06, 2014 12:52 pm

I have a 10week old male he has been eating ground chicken in the morning and at lunch and a chicken thigh at dinner. First night his stools were normal. Then next morning his first stool was normal, second time he went was a bit runny then the third time he had mucus and blood. This morning it seemed to be better first stool looked good, second time he went it was a soft solid with a couple small specs of blood on top and the third time he went it was a little bit of watery stool and another mucus blob with it looked like small blood clots (almost like what you would find in a chicken breast or quarter). He does have some bone in his stools but I understand that is normal. Just a bit worried about the blood. I also have a German Shepard/Rottweiler that has been on a raw diet for about 2 years but he was around 2 1/2-3 years old when he switched to raw and he didn't have the blood when I switched him. Just want to know if I should panic and take the pup to the vet or if this is a normal thing.

It sounds alike what we are experiencing with. Actually, our case is slightly worse than yours. =(
If the bone is raw, it would be unlikely causing the lining damage.
What is colour of the blood btw?
Those mucus suggests that lower part of the tract has irritation.
You can try to give probiotic like Prokolin for your puppy for 2 or 3 days to see is that any improvement?
Also check is the diet has been change gradually?
Check its anal gland as well, is it swollen or normal?
In meanwhile, you might want to collect the feces over 3 days period that you might want to take those to lab for bacterial culture examination if the symptoms hasn't clear up in days time.
