Here comes the reason why I don't buy from breeders. I wasn't going to divulge this because I knew it would cause problems. But it seems that it didn't matter if I did or didn't: I find it irresponsible to buy from a breeder, given the fact that there are too many dogs, in the pound and being put down, that can go to loving homes. But people are pretentious and only want purebreds. And bragging about how much you paid only makes you seem only more self-righteous.
I am not a breed queen. I'm not trying to go out and get the most purebred dog out there. Also, whether she was a BYB or not, is unknown. Could it have been an accident? Yep. Could she be a BYB? Maybe. But all of you stating matter-of-factly as though you know her personally and that she is a BYB, is just totally ignorant.
Woah - no where did I say "I paid this much money and my dog is so much better." in fact, go look around the forum. I stated the price I paid because people were talking about the going premiums. I have a rescue who I have spent thousands upon thousands on to keep healthy - I have two dogs I purchased. I cannot bring full grown dogs into my home, hence why I got Cato. Delilah is a very dominant female and I wasn't going to step on her turf with an adult. I'm not a monster because I went to a well established breeder for both of my males. I got Teddy because I enjoying exhibiting and he was supposed to be a show dog - so yes, I bought him for a purpose. I state matter-of-factly that she was a BYB because she is. A BYB is the term used for someone who has a litter that has no experience, no purpose, and IMO, no reason to be breeding. |

Could you quote whoever said this, please? I didn't see this anywhere in the post and would like clarification |

Then it would not be 'to sum it up'. It should be 'in my opinion, you are saying' or 'what I am inferring'. By saying 'to sum it up' you are giving off the wrong impression, as no one truly said that and no one implied that, from what I inferred. |

Our receptors are obviously different... EDIT: In New Zealand... the expression 'to sum it up' when having a conversation is equal to 'in my opinion, you are saying'... |

| I must ask... why is it 'hostile' or 'attacking' when someone is just trying to educate someone else? I'm sorry, but yes, when you are getting a puppy off craigslist, if you pay even $50 you are BUYING that dog, not 'rescuing' it. You are lining the pockets of someone who had Dog A, and Dog B, and let them breed, and had puppies. There's no reason, or rhyme, or sense to it, and people don't seem to understand thats exactly what backyard breeders do.
Lastly.. this is a public forum. We all have opinions, and we're going to share them. You simply can't expect to say 'Hey, people who buy from breeders JUST want to flaunt their dog' (just one example) and expect everyone to sit back and say nothing, when it is much more than that for them. And I find it laughable that you then act surprised when people counter said post. Again, this is a public forum. Unfortunately we all have to deal with the consequences of the opinions/experiences of others, which if you keep yourself open, can most the time be very educational. |

My point was solely that your preventing a mess further down the line... but hey, that's obviously not relevant.. FYI: hostile Definition: showing or feeling opposition or dislike; unfriendly. "a hostile audience" synonyms: antagonistic, aggressive, confrontational, belligerent, bellicose, pugnacious, militant, truculent, combative, warlike... |

Every time I see you on this forum you are behaving in a condescending way. Things aren't so different in NZ that they warrant an explanation.
$50/pup wouldn't cover the care of mom. Breeding, if done correctly, is a messy thing.
Nice to know that because my perception of things is different - that I apparently behave as if I am all of the above. I gather you have been to New Zealand and understand our colloquialism that you don't need an explanation but apparently the poster I replied to did. I take it that you thoroughly dislike me so I can expect denigration from you. and the fact you would take it that far means I have lost all respect for you. I have never ever stated that I am superior to anyone here, it's sad you have drawn that conclusion, as that is not how I feel at all. In all honesty if you knew me, you would probably consider me white trash considering you think what you think of me at this point. |

The definition of 'Rescue dog' is in the eye of the beholder if you ask me... There aren't any hard fast rules. If you are willing to take a mongrel puppy for a small or fair price and provide it a forever home, you are still rescuing a dog from ending up dumped or abandoned or ultimately going to a shelter that has to run on other's good graces anyway, so you are basically doing rescue shelters a favor in the first place. I believe that is what the OP was trying to do, and that is admirable on it's own, and a prevention tactic in it's own right.
The OP was simply expressing the distaste they felt upon finding out that the owner of the pup's was still trying to make a buck anyway.... I'm not trying to be hostile in anyway shape or form, I am trying to educate OP on his misinformed opinions of purebred dogs. Do not confuse sounding condescending with hostility. When trying to educate someone else on something they have a strong opinion on there is no way you won't sound condescending because you are trying to change their opinion. This is a forum, opinions will differ, and debate will ensue; it'd be pretty boring if we couldn't have debates or try to educate one another... |
