Two Dog Attacks in One Week Empty
PostSubject: Two Dog Attacks in One Week   Two Dog Attacks in One Week EmptyMon Jan 27, 2014 1:36 am

Bodhi was attacked twice this week.

The first one was at day care.
Two other dogs got into it badly.
The day care told me that this makes the dogs go crazy and start biting indiscriminately.

When I picked Bodhi up, I knew something was wrong.
But they told me he had just been playing hard with his malamute buddy.
When I got home, I checked him over more thoroughly
I found a big chunk of fur missing on his chest and some puncture bites on his front leg.

I took him to the vet who gave him an antibiotic for the puncture wounds.
The vet said it was a little dog who bit him from underneath.
Day care apologized, but I understand these thing happen.

Today we were hiking in the woods on a narrow trail, rising to a ridge.
Bodhi was on a leash.
An unleashed GSD just appeared from above and went at Bodhi.
It was so fast and the trail was so narrow there I couldn't protect him.
I fell off the trail and rolled downhill with both dogs.
The GSD bit me on the hand as I tried to get him off.
It was so close I couldn't kick and I was on my knees.
I slugged him in the head.
Bodhi was doing his little no-voice yelps.
(He was debarked so he has no voice.)

The owners didn't get into the fray at all.
They just stayed above us on the trail.
Didn't apologize, didn't say the GSD'd be on a leash next time.
My hand is sore and I have a cut over my eye and another on my leg.
I think these are from sticks and stumps I rolled over going downhill.

I was so mad. Swore and yelled. Still furious.
Got a picture of their license when I walked back to the parking lot.
They were just leaving.
And I suppose if I have half a day to wait in line at the DMV and pay $25, I can find out who they are.
Just boiling.

Why won't people whose dogs are dangerous leash them?
Why do they feel they have a right to subject their dogs on the rest of us?

Wow………..I would have been pissed. That is irresponsible and ridiculous! I can't believe they didn't even attempt to do anything about it. Were you at a public trail? State park? I understand if someones dog it off leash trained. That is great, but when something like that happens, where another dog and human are attacked, then the owner should definitely reconsider having their dog off leash.

That is horrible! I would call the police and report it since you have their plate number. They basically left the scene of an accident. I know it wasn't a car accident, but still! That's crazy!

I'm so sorry that happened! Poor Bodhi has been attacked several times. Sad

I really do hope you can do something with their license plate. I'd seriously try to find out who they are. Possibly drive by their house and have a little chat. Maybe even mail them a few trainer flyers in the mail...

You would think that after this has already happened multiple times, these people would just LEASH their dog! You *never* know when another person w/ their dog is going to come up on a trail. I would definitely try to do everything in my power to get the law involved with this. You all could have been seriously hurt not only from the dog attacking but from falling down the hill because of it. What an idiot, irresponsible owner. Ugh.

Michael, you seem to have the worst luck, poor Bodhi he just cant catch a break, i would call the cops report the car and report it to animal control and have them come look at your hand and Bodhi for record. as for the day care are they covering his vet bill and do they not separate the small and big dogs for play?
i think its time for you to really start carrying spray with you on your outings. sorry this keeps happening Sad

Jenn, broken skin seems to be the standard here for bites.
No marks on Bodhi.

Even if I had my Halt with me on this day, I never would have been able to use it.
The attack was too fast.
The terrain was too confining.
It was a very narrow steep trail in deep woods rising to a ridge that looped around from above to hiker's right.
Didn't hear or see the other dog until he was on us.

Not sure I have the right car either.
I saw a brown dog way ahead of us on the trail coming back to the parking lot.
Couldn't ID it as the GSD that had attacked.
Took a picture of the car as they drove away.
It was the only car in the lot.

Sorry this happened to you. Guess I would only pursue depending on how confident you are about the ID of the car. If I did pursue, I think going to the DMV may only cause you conflict with people who may or may not be at fault. So, I would go to the police instead and let them handle it.

This is horrible I agree that at daycare sometimes things happen but how did the GSD owners not freak out. I hope he is doing okay.

That's pretty horrible. Although I'm glad that I wasn't in your place on the GSD one though as I probably would've "popped" and responded by using lethal force. Definitely try to report these guys if you can though; it's not that I'm against off leash walks with your dog or anything, but it is the owner's responsibility to make sure your dog can handle being off leash without attacking anything first. -_-

I'm so sorry this happened to you and Bodhi again! These kinds of people make me so mad! It's not fair to their dog either-they're putting him in a dangerous situation too. Sometimes I think people need to be trained more than the animals.

He's going back to day care today.
Back on the horse.
I don't want him to become skittish around other dogs.
He is so friendly now.
