| Does anyone else feel like your family has unrealistic expectations for how a puppy acts? When I was at work yesterday I had my sister come let the dogs out and she was shocked that Simon cried when she put him in his kennel to leave. Also if he whines or cries or barks or mouths they all give me weird looks and comment wasn't I working on that? He is a puppy he is 10 weeks old we are still working on his puppy behaviors and I think for a puppy he is doing great. He is really doing well with potty training only a few accidents maybe like 2-3 a week but we are getting better and better. He has started going to the door when he has to go potty and if we let him out he will try to go because he has figured out going the bathroom outside gets him a treat. He has learned to be soft with his mouth unless he is really excited and he had mostly stopped trying to play tug with my hair. He hasn't destroyed anything but dog toys granted we either keep him in a small area or keep our eyes on him. He has tried to steal my slippers but was happy to trade them for a toy. He is happy to meet new people and has learned to sit when he wants something. Things we are working on when he get excited he will chew on people. He screams when he is left alone but stops in a few minuets if he can't hear you. And he is not 100% potty trained but I don't expect that for a few months. So what do you think? Is he doing well or am I letting him get away with murder? Also here is a puppy picture for reading this. |

| He sounds like a typical puppy to me, and it sounds like you're doing great with him. Some people just lack patience/understanding with puppies, they're babies, its not like they do anything on purpose. |

| This sounds like typical puppy behaviour to me too. I understand the situation you are in. My sister-in-law has never had a dog and have unrealistic expectations of his behaviour in the beginning. Just keep doing what you are doing! |

| Yep, definitely all normal behavior. Layla's five months old and she STILL hasn't gotten that my hair isn't a chew toy. Otherwise, she's really good about knowing what are her toys and what isn't (i.e. the furniture, etc., haha). The crying will diminish with time. With Layla we thought it would never end, but within two months she "got" it and now goes in her crate without issue and doesn't go nuts when left alone for a few minutes. I can even take a shower now in peace without worrying about her crying, destroying anything, going to the bathroom inside, etc.! It sounds like you're doing a great job with little Simon. Keep up the good work and stay consistent and he'll get it in no time. Others have to remember he is a baby and won't learn everything overnight. He's only been in his new home for a couple weeks now and is still getting used to everything, so it's to be expected there'll be a few bumps in the road, but it looks like he's doing awesome so far! |

| Thank guys. I love my family and on one hand they are over all super excepting of how much I love my dogs but on the other they don't get that dogs will be dogs. Also I am not a professional trainer so I still have to work on things with them.
Also they don't listen to me with them when I tell them to put the puppy down or to not let him play rough it's like they don't get if he is huge and thinks he can play badly with them they will no longer want him around. |

| I can relate to that with family. My hubby played rough with Luci and really regrets it now (not that he would admit it...) |
