Hello everyone,
Just thought I'd introduce myself. After months of research we brought our baby home just before Christmas, he is 9 weeks and called Toby.
Toby is our 1st husky (well, officially he is my 15 year old daughter's, but seems to have latched on to me)
I spend hours reading your posts before he moved in. It has really paid off, he is brilliant, so well behaved, he seems very confident so he does test the waters on a daily basis, but we started positive reinforcement from day 1.
Our family set up is :- Myself, Husband, 2 sons, aged 22 & 16 and as mentioned 15 year old daughter. we also have 2 cats, aged 5 & 9.
I thought I had effectively ''Trained'' my 2 son's before Toby arrived. However it seems this may be an ongoing project and positive reinforcement with the lads is much more expensive than with Toby. Toby seems to think my son's are his litter mates, and treats them accordingly.
Myself and Husband both grew up with dogs, we know quite a bit but are by no means experts, we do know how to find out the things we need to know, so we aren't out on a limb.
The only worry I have at the moment is, ''The amount I worry'' about Toby.
It really is getting ridiculous, I lose sleep worrying. 'Is he happy ?' 'Is he eating enough ?'
'Is he eating too much ?' 'Is he getting enough exercise ?' 'Is he getting too much exercise ?' (you get the picture).
I know the answer to every question (thanks to most of you) and know I'm doing things right and how to get over the odd blip.
My occupation is a Midwife and see this behaviour in 1st time mum's all the time, but i do think I have '1st Husky Syndrome'. Did anyone else feel like this ?, or am I just a crazy dog lady ?
Here's a pic of our precious little baby !
